The Nightwing movie director Chris McKay has confirmed that the casting for the film is yet to begin, thereby refuting rumors of Dick Grayson’s role being filled.
DC Extended Universe is at this time very busy with Justice League, which is all set to hit the theaters this month. They will then shift focus to their other films in the pipeline, which includes Flashpoint and Wonder Woman 2. Warner Bros. has many other films currently in different stages of development and that includes Nightwing.
The films they decided to highlight at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 this past summer included Wonder Woman 2 and Flashpoint. The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay feels that the studio wants to set everything right before announcing the details and the release date of Nightwing.
As per the comic book, Nightwing is an expert aerialist who is familiar with different forms of martial arts. Hence, the actor who will portray the role of Dick Grayson must be able to handle hardcore action and must be able to show the same level of skill as in the comics.
Several rumors regarding the lead actor have been doing the rounds for the past few months with many of them expressing their interest in essaying the superhero. Dacre Montgomery, Power Rangers, and Stranger Things star tweeted with a picture that suggested his interest or involvement in Nightwing last night. However, he was quick to delete the image. McKay in his tweet today has confirmed that the casting is yet to begin. He tweeted, “We haven’t started the process of casting NIGHTWING yet but when we do you’ll hear something because our search will be far and wide.” This also implies that they will have an open casting call, and that is something McKay had mentioned before as well.
When MCKay was asked by another fan if the pre-production would begin next year, the director quipped, “Yes I think it can provided the script is crazy great.”
