The verdict for No Hard Feelings is overwhelmingly positive all thanks to Jennifer Lawrence, who – going by critics’ social media reviews “carried” the movie. The coming-of-age comedy flick stars newcomer Andrew Barth Feldman as Percy Becker, an introverted kid with helicopter parents who task JLaw’s Maddie to take his virginity before he leaves for college.
No Hard Feelings had its premiere in NYC earlier on Tuesday and Jennifer Lawrence made a stunning appearance to the event donning a sheer white gown Christain Dior dress. Fortunately, it’s not just the actress’ attire that critics and fans are raving over – the early social media reactions are praising the X-Men actor for co-producing and starring in what’s being called “legitimately raunchy” film, as Flickering Myth’s Rob Wick said.
While JLaw and Andrew Barth Feldman’s chemistry appears to have been one of the elements of its success – Jennifer’s comedy chops and her raunchy acting have some like Collider’s Nate Richard calling her “the new queen of R-rated comedies”.
While the trailer teased JLaw in provocative sequences wearing a skimpy pink dress – some film critics have stated the movie is more than just a sex comedy and is “heartfelt”. Like TCM host Dave Karger says, “What I didn’t expect was its’ gigantic heart.” Gene Stupnitsky‘s film is being applauded for having the charm of early 2000s comedy.
The only criticism seems to be for the third act and few like The Playlist’s Gregory Ellwood have questioned the necessity for spending $70 million on its production. Nonetheless, it’s safe to say No Hard Feelings is a critically acclaimed raunchy comedy. Readers can check out reactions below.
No Hard Feelings is a heartfelt sex comedy. Jennifer Lawrence and Andrew Barth Feldman do an amazing job. It's very hilarious and self-aware. The film has a dramatic shift midway that worked for me in the end. Two extra points for including Nelly's Hot in Herre. #NoHardFeelings pic.twitter.com/nEmnWaIpN9

All hail Jennifer Lawrence, the new queen of R-Rated comedies. #NoHardFeelings is the perfect mix of raunchy and sweet, with two great leading performances from Lawrence and Andrew Barth Feldman.
Come for the great laughs, stay for the gigantic heart. pic.twitter.com/0xpg7hhMYA— Nate Richard (@NateKnowsMovies) June 21, 2023
NO HARD FEELINGS is carried on the back of Jennifer Lawrence’s natural talent. Without her, this wouldn’t work. Andrew Barth Feldman keeps up & delivers a sensitive breakout turn. An often funny & surprisingly sweet but uneven raunchy comedy we don’t see much of anymore. pic.twitter.com/vgeHVijfFv

#NoHardFeelings owns exactly what it is: a throwback R-rated comedy. The jokes work really well, and it has a sweet edge to it too.
Jennifer Lawrence is a perfect fit for this genre and carries it home. It never breaks into anything surprising, but it’s a good time nonetheless. pic.twitter.com/mgiWhfDnZi

#NoHardFeelings is very much my jam. Foul mouthed, funny, and with surprising heart, it’s a hoot. Jennifer Lawrence goes all in on the comedy, which pays dividends, with a bonus that she, unsurprisingly, aces the drama. A throwback to 80s comedies that I adore. @NoHardFeelings pic.twitter.com/gjZ3eNFBc2

#NoHardFeelings solidified for me that we need Jennifer Lawrence in more movies ASAP! While the movie overall is fine, she truly carries this thing on her back and gives a fully committed performance. What a movie star! pic.twitter.com/gNmhCCOwx5

No Hard Feelings is cute, some good laughs, but is a bit too down the middle? Would be a better film if it was just more of a hard R over-the-top comedy or go full dramedy. Also, outside of Natalie Morales/Kyle Mooney the supp cast sort of wiffs it? Also, $70 mil budget? How???

NO HARD FEELINGS is a mixed bag. The first half is really funny, and it’s great to see JENNIFER LAWRENCE flex her comedic chops (she really goes for it, especially in one beachside scene), but it totally falls apart and goes limp in the second half with short cuts & contrivances. pic.twitter.com/AhWfTCO9Tr

Jennifer Lawrence was made for R rated comedies as shown in #NoHardFeelings. The film has an unexpected coming of age edge that captures the charm of the early 2000s studio comedy. JLaw and Andrew Barth Feldman have the sweetest chemistry that feels natural. pic.twitter.com/tSP0mTtqCM

#NoHardFeelings A very funny movie that's also sweet. Doesn't make a lot of sense and sometimes even has fun pointing that out and making fun of itself, but it's hilarious and surprisingly legitimately raunchy.

I needed to laugh tonight so I’m very happy I went to see the hilarious #NoHardFeelings. What I didn’t expect was its gigantic heart. Jennifer Lawrence and Andrew Barth Feldman are simply a wonderful pair. pic.twitter.com/odpQSg1OQH

#NoHardFeelings sees Jennifer Lawrence finally flexing her comic chops in one of her best performances in years. It’s a return to the raunchy R-rated sex comedies, but it’s also surprisingly sweet thanks to the chemistry of Lawrence and Andrew Barth Feldman. Big recommendation! pic.twitter.com/FPG6SbyF2P

JLaw is not new to performing roles that required raunchy performances with her past films like Red Sparrow and Mother! being a testament. However, No Hard Feelings is her first R-rated comedy and from the looks of it, fans hope to see the Don’t Look Up actor take up more roles with similar themes.
No Hard Feelings arrives in theaters on June 23.
