‘Openly gay gorilla and..’: My Adventures with Superman episode 6 fans are loving Gorilla Monsieur Mallah & Brain’s queer romance

DC’s latest animated series challenges the status quo of its well-known characters like Deathstroke but in My Adventures with Superman episode 6, the creators introduce a comic-accurate depiction of the super-intelligent gorilla Monsieur Mallah and his lover, the Brain. The show is quick to address the two characters’ romantic entanglement and fans are all for it.

Just when fans were beginning to wonder if My Adventures with Superman season 1 was all about Lois and Clark’s romance. Episode 6 titled “My Adventures With Mad Science” shifts the trajectory towards exploring the story of an “openly gay gorilla [No, not Grodd] and his disembodied brain boyfriend” as user @jmartinwrites tweeted on Twitter/X.

My Adventures with Superman episode 6 picks up where it left off as Lois and Clark realize their best friend Jimmy Olsen is missing. The two put their differences aside (Like Smallville hiding his secret identity from Lois) and visit the campground where they were supposed to meet up for the Bigfoot investigation.

Monsieur Mallah and The Brain’s love interest is canon thanks to My Adventures with Superman episode 6

Clark and Lois are quickly faced with fighting off Task Force X’s advanced weaponized robots. Meanwhile, Jimmy befriends Monsieur Mallah, who has a French accent and his companion, a German scientist who had to have his brain transplanted into a robot.

My Adventures with Superman episode 6 does a quick dive into their backstory and audiences are brought to speed on Mallah’s origin. The Brain is in fact the brains behind the Mallah’s super intelligence. The CADMUS scientist lives on as a robot due to a black hole incident at the facility.

Mallah and the German scientist’s romantic interest is clearly hinted at even before the former is forced to inhabit a robot to survive. It is clear that Monsieur Mallah and Brain are romantically involved through their gestures and interactions.

DC comics tip-toed over acknowledging their romantic relationship until Doom Patrol issue #34 by Grant Morrison openly addressed it as a bond between two lovers. It is certainly an interesting addition to the Superman animated series which had queer fans on the lookout for LGBTQ references.

My Adventures with Superman season 1 has slowly crawled up on DC fans’ radar for its creative decisions. The show has nerfed Superman’s power to some extent though it seems like Clark is yet to fully understand his powers. In fact, the series has not yet unveiled his true name as Kal-El from Krypton.

My Adventures with Superman episode 7 will arrive on Thursday on Adult Swim and will be made available on Max the following day.
