It seems Rob Cohen, director of 2001’s The Fast and the Furious, is keen in making a comeback again for a final Fast and Furious film. Cohen can be credited for the launch of the Fast & Furious franchise, which is undoubtedly one of the most successful film franchises of all time. Notably, Cohen did not return to direct any other sequel or spin-off in the franchise.

In a recent interview with Screen Crush for his latest movie, Hurricane Heist, Cohen expressed his wish to direct the final Fast & Furious film for Universal. He said that given a chance, he would love to direct the final film in the Furious franchise when and if it is planned.

“I always wished Universal would come back to me to direct the last one,” Cohen said.

With each new Fast & Furious installment, whether a sequel or spin-off, performing exceptionally well at the box office, Universal Studios would probably not want to make a final Fast and Furious film, at least not anytime soon.

Notably, even if the original cast of the Fast & Furious franchise wishes to opt out, the franchise has introduced a host of new and memorable characters on which the next films could be based on. In fact, Universal Studios already has a new Fast & Furious spin-off movie in the pipeline, titled “Hobbs and Shaw,” which will reportedly feature Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. The film is set to release in 2019.

As per new reports, the filming of Hobbs and Shaw will likely begin in September this year, with Deadpool 2 fame director David Leitch set to direct, reported Omega Undergorund.

Talking more about the upcoming F&F franchise films, Fast & Furious 9 is scheduled to release in April 2020, while Fast & Furious 10 is set to land in theatres in April 2021, at least for now. Vin Diesel teased fans about the upcoming films in a Facebook video uploaded last year in October.
