If any cinephiles were planning on having a movie marathon or a soap opera binge-watch fest then this week might be the perfect time to enjoy the latest Hollywood flicks, Indian/non-English blockbusters, and acclaimed adult animated series to enjoy from the comfort of your home.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (Netflix)
With Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: No Way Home re-releasing in theatres this September – the Marvel threequel flick starring Tom Holland, Zendaya and Benedict Cumberbatch couldn’t have arrived at a better time on Netflix India in the traditional subscription model. The movie is still available to stream for rent on Prime as well. Aside from boasting an ensemble of villains from Dr. Octopus (Alfred Molina) to Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), the film’s third act featuring Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield‘s Spider-Men is the standout sequence that makes this movie a jaw-dropping experience even on the second or third viewing.
Ms. Marvel (Disney Plus Hotstar)
Marvel Studios’ coming-of-age superhero series featuring Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan is riding on the high tides with an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score just from Ms. Marvel’s first episode debut. The show’s stylized art elements, desi homage, brown community’s family dynamic & more have won over critics and fans alike with much anticipation for the second episode arriving this Wednesday.
RRR (Netflix)
S.S. Rajamouli’s historical fictional drama, RRR has earned massive critical praise from Hollywood since its release on the OTT, particularly one of the film’s lead stars Ram Charan is gaining new popularity for his charming traits playing Alluri Sitarama Raju. The story is loosely based on real-life stories of the freedom fighter of the same name and Jr. NTR as Komaram Bheem, another revolutionary that fought against the colonial British.
Peaky Blinders season 6 (Netflix)
Peaky Blinders season 6 is finally available internationally and explores the aftermath of Polly’s (Helen McCrory) death with Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy), his brother Arthur (Paul Anderson) and what’s left of the Peaky Blinders. Will Michael Gray (Finn Cole) manages to get his revenge or will Sir Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin) be the enemy that Tommy couldn’t defeat? Find out on Netflix.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (Disney Plus Hotstar)
Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place after the Jedi Master’s devastating defeat in the hands of his once friend Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), corrupted by the dark side of the Force and becoming a Sith Lord – Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) is in hiding from falling into Darth Vadar’s radar and the empire but must also safeguard Luke and Leia. Episode 5 will stream on June 15.
Hustle movie (Netflix)
Adam Sandler as the basketball talent scout of The Philadelphia 76ers in Netflix’s Hustle movie is new on the block and the Jeremiah Zagar-helmed sports drama is already winning hearts. Though not based on true events, the movie includes cameos from NBA finest Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson. LeBron James was a producer.
The Boys 3 (Amazon Prime Video)
Homelander (Antony Starr) is up to no good and it seems not even Vought or The Seven could stop him but that’s also not stopping The Boys 3 from raising the bar by bringing in The Solider Boy (Jensen Ackles). Season 3’s first four episodes are out and have already left a scar on fans with disturbing bloody deaths, twists and nudity. Luckily, Butcher’s (Karl Urban) ragtag team is also on the move though, after the last episode, it’s unclear if a certain fan-favorite supe could die. Episode 5 will arrive on Prime Video this Friday, June 17.
Interceptor (Netflix)
The action-heavy feature Interceptor starring Elsa Pataky as Army Captain J. J. Collins had a rough start but is surprisingly in the first spot on Netflix’s Top 10 viewed movies. Helmed by Matthew Reilly, The trailers promise guns blazing sequences and Atomic Blonde-Esque hand-to-hand fights all happening at the Interceptor station that Collins commands. Chris Hemsworth has a cameo in the movie.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Amazon Prime Video)
Directed by Jeff Fowler, the box office success sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sees Sonic is on a path to becoming the superhero he’s dreamed of but not before facing Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) again and his new companion, Knuckles. When faced with a tougher contender and tasked to find an emerald that could destroy the world in the wrong hand, Sonic with his own sidekick Tails go on a journey to find the jewel.
Stranger Things 4 – (Netflix)
Some fans have been late to the party in tuning in on the Duffer Brothers’ led Netflix original Stranger Things 4, largely due to its feature-length episodes. After three years since Stranger Things season 3 premiere, the sci-fi supernatural drama returned with Stranger Things 4 Vol.1. The first 7 episode are available to stream and explores the emerging war from Vecna’s curse in The Upside Down while Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and others attempt to save Hawkins.
Spy x Family (Netflix)
Spy x Family, based on Tatsuya Endo’s recent publication of the same name is not your average anime but rather a wholesome spy thriller with a family-centric story that follows elite agent Twilight and his journey to complete the most important assignment, Operation Strix. A mission if gone wrong could jeopardize the peace between the nations of Ostania and the Westalis. And to go undercover he is tasked with finding a wife and daughter and comes across Yor, a secret assassin and Anya with telepath powers.
