As the Jurassic World: Dominion red carpet premiere in LA came to an end, early critic reactions for the anticipated franchise finale quickly followed online. Many writers praised the potential blockbuster’s nostalgia but others also got candid stating Jurassic World 3 has no awe-inspiring elements of the original. Still, Universal Pictures’ final flick helmed by Colin Trevorrow has already pulled in $55 million at international markets.
Reactions are divided for Jurassic World: Dominion with many calling the threequel’s storyline hollow. But where the plot lacks, it seems its Jurassic Park homage has rescued the franchise’s final film. Critics pointed out Jurassic World: Dominion embraces nostalgia from Steven Spielberg’s original and its favorite trio cast Sam Neil, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum. While it delivers breathtaking dinosaur sequences (practical and CGI), the flawed story seems to be the problem for some, as early social media reactions point out in the tweets below.
It pains me to say this, but I did NOT like #JurassicWorldDominion — the story was convoluted & all over the place, and it didn’t feel special. There’s no magic or heart to it, and it doesn’t capture the awe-inspiring feeling of the original at all. Not sure who it’s even for. pic.twitter.com/WjhVJaY9Nv

#JurassicWorldDominion is better than Fallen Kingdom in every way. It knows the franchise is out of ideas, so it tries to do something new by doing a bit of everything. It's so dumb and cheesy, it kinda works? A flawed but admirable effort, with plenty of action and cool dinos. pic.twitter.com/KLS6dJzAba

Let’s be clear…it doesn’t matter what I say about #JurassicWorldDominion – it's going to make so much money. It defies logic. It's a movie where things just happen and people know things "because" – smoke a joint, go drunk and have the time of your life. Nostalgia on overdrive. pic.twitter.com/eD7hViPYSd

#JurassicWorldDominion rocks an excellent mix of practical & digital effects. Dinos look GREAT. Dimetrodon scene is … right up my alley. Bryce Dallas Howard runs away with the movie — & new trilogy for that matter. Claire experiences one heck of an arc & Howard soars with it. pic.twitter.com/5qWYkddi9e

#JurassicWorldDominion is a jumbled nightmare. Sloppy, contrived, enervating. A butt-numbing 147 minutes of bland, shrieky mayhem that arouses no fear, wonderment, excitement. A grab-bag of generic action setpieces huddling together for warmth. Eches of Emmerich's GODZILLA.

It brings me no joy to report that #JurassicWorldDominion is a MASSIVE disappointment. While the film does feature some incredible dinosaur sequences and it is great to see the original cast back on the big screen, the film fails to deliver on what the previous films promise. pic.twitter.com/AsGoqMsrSf

It delivers the spectacle you expect, but #JurassicWorldDominion feels underwhelming for a finale as it treads familiar ground. Lovely to see the OG trio though and their strand is the strongest, even if it unwittingly highlights how bland the JW characters are by comparison. pic.twitter.com/IT2yXfhMFY

It becomes redundant in the third (overly long) act, just #JurassicWorldDominion is mostly the right kind of stupid. It's a laundry list of "What haven't we seen in a JURASSIC movie?" It looked great on the TCL IMAX and often plays like a "Yes, we still can!" Covid era tentpole. pic.twitter.com/Sbbb3WibUM

#JurassicWorldDominion = BAD. It ignores the premise it should’ve had from the start, instead synthetically engineering 2 entirely different, uninteresting & hollow stories that it struggles to connect. Some effects look polished, some ropey. Worst of the franchise. pic.twitter.com/0xbyUR6O9d

GOOD NEWS: #JurassicWorldDominion is my favorite film of the new Jurassic trilogy. It’s stuffed w/ thrilling dinosaur encounters & lots more Jeff Goldblum, but it’s also got a great balance of creepy & inventive scenarios w/ some choice nods to what came before. A solid finale. pic.twitter.com/G6bMCDUecL

Just saw #JurassicWorldDominion I enjoyed this movie better than Fallen Kingdom but this franchise has lost the magic that made the original so special. It’s more of a generic science-fiction monster movie. Didn’t hate watching it but it’s way too long.: https://t.co/BxJAhkDYT6

Fortunately for Universal, Jurassic World 3’s entertainer element will likely have movieholics sold rather than be swayed by nit-picked criticism so it seems there’s no stop to its massive box office success. Jurassic World 2 has a rotten RT score of 47% and a miserable 48% audience score but that didn’t stop the sequel from earning $1.3 billion worldwide.

Jurassic World: Dominion picks up right where the Fallen Kingdom ended and will see Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) living amongst the once extinct apex predators as the rest of humanity. Though Velociraptors won’t be the trouble fans’ favorite Dino experts face in Dominion with trailers showing Atrociraptors hunting Grady and even species that were extinct before the dinos, like Dimetrodon get in on the action in this finale.
Directed by Colin Trevorrow from a script penned by Emily Carmichael and story by Derek Connolly, Jurassic World: Dominion hits theatres on June 10. The movie also stars DeWanda Wise, Isabella Sermon, BD Wong and Dichen Lachman.
