Paramount Pictures’ chairman-CEO Jim Gianopulos took the stage at the CinemaCon 2018 event in Las Vegas to announce that the studio has already begun working on a sequel to the recently released horror film, A Quiet Place.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gianopulos said that A Quiet Place’s success was pretty much unexpected.
“If you told me five years ago that an almost silent film starring the very funny guy Jim from The Office would have been a hit at Paramount, I would have said, ‘Well, I should go work at Paramount,'” Gianopulos said addressing the CinemaCon attendees.
A Quiet Place has earned more than $213 million at the worldwide box office, including $134.8 million in North America, since its premiere on April 6th. The film is Paramount’s biggest hit since 2016’s “Star Trek Beyond.”
The high-concept thriller film was directed by John Krasinski from a script by Bryan Woods and Scott Beck.
Krasinski also starred in the film opposite his real-life wife, Emily Blunt. The two played the role of a married couple with two small children who must remain silent to avoid being attacked by creatures who hunt by sound. The film reportedly cost $17 million to make.
There’s currently no information on whether or not the original team will be retained for the film sequel, nor are any plot details available.
It is expected that A Quiet Place writers Bryan Woods and Scott Beck will be roped in for the sequel as well as they have plenty of ideas for a sequel.
“It’s such a fun world,” Woods told Fandango. “There are so many things you could do.”
Beck added that they had penned down some ideas that were discarded from the first film.
“There are so many discarded set pieces, too, just hiding out on Word documents on our computer,” the co-writer said. “So, yeah, there are certainly so many stories you could tell. It’s just really, at the end of the day, who are the characters in this and what does this situation mean to that dynamic?”
There’s no word yet on when fans can expect A Quiet Place sequel to release.
