Pavitr Prabhakar’s Indian Spider-Man sips Chai with Miles Morales & talks about Mumbai’s bad traffic in Spider-Verse 2 promo

Pavitr Prabhakar’s Mumbattan is one of the universes Miles will be paying a visit to in Spider-Verse 2 where Brooklyn’s Spidey receives a warm welcome from the Indian Spider-Man. Sony Pictures has released a character-centric promo for the desi neighborhood superhero voiced by Deadpool 2‘s Karan Soni.

Aside from fighting The Spot in Earth-50101, It looks like Miles Morales would be engaging in pleasantries too, such as sipping chai with Pavitr Prabhakar. Though he seems to enjoy referring to Miles as the “new guy” and takes offense at the mention of tea, “Chai means tea, you’re saying tea tea.”

The Spider-Verse 2 teaser shows the Indian Spider-Man introducing Mumbai without understating the traffic that comes with living in the city. Producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller earlier described this dimension as “Manhattan but in reverse”.

As shown in the video – Unlike the comic iteration, Pavitr Prabhakar combines his web attacks with a yo-yo while fighting crime. He appears to use the gauntlet on his arm as a yo-yo with the web while fighting The Spot. The trailer also shows Spider-Man India rescue a bunch of normies combining the web-slinging yo-yo.

The sequence begins showing Gwen in Mumbattan engaged in combat but is suddenly interrupted by Miles. The unlikely reunion between Gwen and Miles seems to be due to The Spot. Spider-Man India has been showcased as one of the lead/main characters of Across the Spider-Verse, similar to Into the Spider-Verse characters’ screentime like Spider-Man Noir, and Spider-Ham.

While Spider-Man is known for acquiring his powers from the accidental radioactive spider bite – Pavitr’s storyline has a twist in the comics. The Indian spidey receives his powers through a yogi but it’s unknown if the same backstory has been adapted for the live-action.

Meanwhile, the character teases from the international TV spot has the film crew already discussing the arduous hours that went into creating them. A costume designer for Across the Spider-Verse revealed “it took me like 15 months to get him right” while responding to a shot of Spider-Man 2099.

Across the Spider-Verse will hit theaters on June 2, 2023.
