Prime Video censors Gen V episode 1’s penis scene in India, The Boys spin-off’s NSFW sequence removal explained

Not the depiction of horrifying gore but nudity is where Prime Video India draws the line for The Boys spin-off, Gen V. The raving show has been in the spotlight for its promising dark take on the superhero genre though this time, it explores the gritty comedic drama by centering over a group of young supes.

Prime Video India is at it again and Gen V episode 1 has fallen victim to the streaming platform’s self-censorship guidelines. While the violent aspects of the pilot remain untouched, the first bizarre sex sequence has sadly been removed. The scene in question is already causing waves across social media for its upsetting NSFW depiction of Emma a.k.a Little Cricket’s (Lizze Broadway) shrinking abilities & her sexual encounter with Liam (Robert Bazzocchi).

The scene shows Emma shrink down to the size of a thumb, comparable to a “Cricket”, after Liam compels her. In the version streamed in India, we only learn through their explicit dialogues that Emma engages in a sexual act while remaining shrunk. Liam’s penis is visibly shown while Emma is revealed caressing it. PursueNews can confirm that the explicit shot of Liam’s genitalia is not shown while the sequence is available in the US version.

Last year in June during the premiere month of The Boys season 3 – Prime Video heavily censored the graphic nudity portrayed in the Herogasm episode. Similarly, a controversial scene involving a cow and homelander and another instance of Solider Boy’s sex act were removed as well.

Why is Prime Video India censoring The Boys spin-off Gen V?

The series showrunner Eric Kripke has also expressed his disappointment in the censoring of the superhero nudity in The Boys season 3. “I understand and respect their decision, but I am disappointed that the Indian fans won’t get to experience the full show as it was intended.”

While Prime Video has not offered a response on the show’s censorship – the streamer offered a statement clarifying the cuts are to ensure “We will keep Indian cultural sensitivities in mind while offering this content to customers.”

It remains to be seen if the series will be subject to more censorship in India. Gen V episode 3 is scheduled to arrive on October 6. The spin-off received an 8-episode order with the Gen V finale set to stream on November 3.
