Never doubt Zack Snyder, that is the sentiment among fans since the Rebel Moon trailer was unveiled at Gamescom on Tuesday night. The space opera franchise’s massive world-building has even attracted Star Wars fans, with one of the major discussions centered around the aesthetics such as the impressive VFX in designing Spider Warrior Harmada. The blue & red flamed lightsaber-Esque swords used by Kora, Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein) & Nemesis (Bae Doona) in the promo have also caught moviegoers’ attention. Here’s what the internet had to say on Part One: A Child of Fire from Netflix.
A 3-minute 43-second “teaser” is unprecedented but going by Snyder fan’s reactions, it is just the treat they expected from the auteur filmmaker. The footage introduces the threat that Kora the scargiver & her ragtag team would face from the Admirable Noble-led Imperium. Furthermore, Netflix also confirmed the titles for Part 1 and Part 2: The Scargiver with its release date set for April 19, 2024.
Snyder had assured earlier that the wait for the sequel would be brief but fans appear to be surprised by the mere four-month gap for the second installment. Netflix & Snyder are yet to reveal the R-rated edition’s release date.
In the meantime, Snyder followers are breaking down the best shots from the promotional footage and fortunately, PursueNews was also able to acquire some hi-res stills from Rebel Moon, courtesy of Netflix.
A detailed high-definition image of Spider Warrior Harmada played by Jena Malone was shared alongside shots of Kora shooting a handgun and Charlie Hunnam’s Kai in a similar action shot. One of the hi-res images also shows Tarak and the huge flying creature, Griffin.
And the rest of the stills include Jimmy the battle robot (voiced by Anthony Hopkins), General Titus (Djimon Hounsou) and a group still of Kora with Tarak, Kai and Gunnar (Michiel Huisman). Readers can check it out below.
In discussing the teaser, Snyder stans are particularly appreciative of the cinematography in Rebel Moon since the director performed the director of photography (DOP) task all by himself. Zack Snyder also did the cinematography for his last Netflix title, Army of the Dead. In addition, ZSJL fans were delighted by the first look at Darkseid actor Ray Porter playing an undisclosed character.
Speaking of fans, a demand for a theatrical release grows louder and louder but it’s likely Netflix would go for a selective big-screen release since Variety has already predicted Rebel Moon to receive a VFX Oscar nomination for 2024. It is not known yet if the streamer will release the movie globally in theaters for a brief window similar to Rian Johnson‘s Glass Onion.

This would be a Cinema Crime to not be able to have the opportunity to see #RebelMoon on the Biggest Screen Possible!https://t.co/H0PWyV0ASS#RebelMoonInCinemasWorldWide pic.twitter.com/iO7mmLncAX

Did Zack Snyder somehow make lightsabers look even COOLER in #RebelMoon?! 😭🙌🏽

Blue flame is considered to be hotter than red flame so I'm guessing the swords that Kora and Atticus are using are more powerful than the swords Nemesis has. Maybe that's because blue flame swords are used by ppl with higher power like the Imperium. #RebelMoon pic.twitter.com/usDxGs8uhI

2 episodes of Ashoka dropping tonight, it’s going to be interesting to see if any lightsaber work in it is as dynamic and interesting as this singular Rebel Moon shot

Audiences aren’t ready for what Zack Snyder is cooking with #RebelMoon.
It’s Snyder untethered, a sci-fi fantasy influenced by other iconic films, literature and anime. Calling it his version of Star Wars is too simplistic.
Wish I could say more, but be excited for the future! pic.twitter.com/hSrgvLKreO

The lengthy teaser also shows glimpses of Kora’s past life serving under Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee) . But after losing her loved one during a war, she appears to have defected. Moreover, Admirable Noble also seems to be searching for her.
Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire will stream on Netflix from December 22. No official word yet on a theatrical window release.
