Ben Affleck, who played Batman/Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League will appear as Batman in The Flash’s upcoming movie, Flashpoint. However, according to Variety, he will cease to continue in the DCEU and make way for a new actor in The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves.
When Ben Affleck took over as Batman after Christian Bale’s exit following the conclusion of his tenure after The Dark Knight Rises, fans thought Affleck will be with DCEU to stay for a long time to come. However, a little after the release of BVS, rumors of Affleck moving out began to pop up. However, fans of Batman/Affleck still have reasons to cheer about. Ben Affleck will play Batman once again in The Flash. The film’s name Flashpoint was revealed during last summer’s San Diego Comic-Con.
It is not known as yet whether it was Affleck who decided to walk out of the DCEU or Warner Bros. had second thoughts after the harsh criticism he received in all the movies he starred.
DC studio is now looking out for a much younger actor to play Batman, and Ben Affleck, who is already 45-years-old, might not fit the bill. Jake Gyllenhaal was speculated as being considered to play Batman last month.
Radar Online also quoted one of their sources reporting that Jon Hamm (of Mad Men fame) would be interested in taking up the Batman role even though he has worked with Affleck before in The Town.
“They’ve enjoyed working together and have been on good terms ever since,” the source explained. “But Jon knows Ben has faced some criticism over Batman v. Superman and Justice League, and frankly thinks he’d be better suited for the job. This is business for Jon, not personal,” according to Radar Online.
Back in June this year, when Reeves was asked about Affleck’s possible exit from the Batman franchise, the director had confidently replied that Affleck would indeed play the Dark Knight in The Batman.
