‘Resurrect her as a mutant’ – backlash ensues for killing Ms. Marvel in Spider-Man comic penned by MCU’s The Marvels writer, stans expect Iman Vellani’s response but here’s how Kamala Khan could return

Marvel has landed in hot waters for killing off Ms. Marvel in the Amazing Spider-Man #26 special issue. Kamala Khan’s death in the one-shot comic, penned by The Marvels movie writer Zeb Wells has MCU fans concerned for Iman Vellani‘s character. However, word on the street indicates the decision may have been influenced by the live-action counterpart being portrayed as a Mutant rather than an inhuman.

Ms. Marvel’s death in the comics appeared on fans’ radar from a leaked image on Reddit. but the publishers were quick to admit the news through an official social media post confirming there are spoilers on the web to Amazing Spider-Man #26 – Fallen Friend: The Death of Ms. Marvel. The shocking revelation has the Marvel fandom confused since the character’s demise comes at a time when Marvel Studios has Captain Marvel 2 scheduled for release in the same year which features Kamala Khan as one of the leads.

While many have criticized the character’s demise as lazy writing, some believe it has been in the making for quite some time. Speculative opinions suggest Marvel Comics would attempt to pen a storyline that could revive Kamala Khan through the Krakoan resurrection protocols (for those unaware, Krakoa is the Mutant nation with a strict anti-human policy). After the process, Charles Xavier through the Cerebro plants their memories back. The protocol requires the powers of the Five which include Elixir, Egg, Hope Summers, Proteus and Tempus.

Marvel Comics could revive Ms. Marvel through the Mutants resurrection machine

It was long believed only Mutants could cheat death through the resurrection machine but that changed in A.X.E.: Judgement Day #5 when the X-Men and The Five brought back Captain America to life. It appears the rule that the revival process is only performed on mutants is a custom, one which they broke for Steve Rogers so perhaps Ms. Marvel could also fall under the exception. In any case, readers are advised to take this news with a grain of salt since it is mere speculation for now. Even so, the backlash continues to grow over Kamala’s death, especially since the character has barely reached a decade since her debut appearance in 2013.

With Zeb Wells, part of The Marvels movie writers team – it’s possible the Marvel comics writer has been assigned the duty to synergize the source material with live-action since Kamala Khan’s mutant association was not well received by the fandom.

Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani has not responded to Kamala Khan’s death in the comics yet. However, Marvel still has months to release a follow-up issue (if there is one), before The Marvels movie releases on November 10, 2023. The Amazing Spider-Man #26 is set to release in stores on May 31. Let’s hope there is a larger plan at play and any comic fan would know, no Marvel character remains dead permanently.
