Rings of Power episode 7 branded as “boring”, fans react to Southland is Mordor, Balrog in Khazad-dûm mountain & more

Rings of Power episode 7 escalates the impending peril of Middle-Earth by transforming Southlands into Mordor with the eruption of Mount Doom, hinting at the impending rise of Sauron, as the penultimate segment’s title suggests, “Eye”. Unfortunately, it may not be enough to keep LOTR fans excited or the casual Tolkien followers with many already calling it a snoozefest on social media.  Nonetheless, the seventh chapter sets the stage for Numenor and the Elves’ reunion to battle Sauron or at the moment, Lord-Father Adar (Joseph Mawle). But what about the mysterious Gandalf-looking Stranger (Daniel Weyman) being tracked by the trio white cloaked cult? Here’s a brief recap of moments that stood out.

As much as RoP fans would love to see the battle for Middle-Earth spiral out, episode 7 instead showed Numenoreans and Southlanders licking their wounds after the volcano eruption, taking their wounded casualties to safety, including Regent Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) who has lost her eyesight after going above and beyond to rescue the injured. Could Rings of Power episode 7 titled “Eye” be referring to this instance instead of the eye of Sauron? For Captain Elendil (Lloyd Owen), the presumed loss of his son, Isildur (Maxim Baldry) seems to be the tipping point that makes him regret finding Galadriel. Meanwhile, the Harfoots are busy being Harfoots but their migration is interrupted by the “fire rock” incident from the South.

Sadly, the Harfoots are left with nothing but ash-covered fruits from scorched trees. But Sadoc burrows (Lenny Henry) hopes the wizard-y Stranger could do his wonders. While his help only gets him a one-way ticket away from the Harfoots, they soon realize his powers helped revive all the trees to bare them the rations needed for travel. Though it also sends a signal to the white-cloaked cult tracking the Stranger.

At Southlands, Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) are hiding from the Orcs but both of them are weighed down by their guilt of failure in stopping the Orcs from using the Evil hilt. Fortunately, Theo’s remorse gets uplifted when he realizes his mother Bronwyn and Arondir are safe. Though the same cannot be said for Halbrand, severely injured and in need of Elvish medicine. Could his character really be a foreshadowing of his fall to the dark side (as many theorize) to eventually become a ringwraith or worse the Witch-King? All in all, Rings of Power episode 7 fails to impress the larger fandom due to a lackluster lead-up to a bemused war sequence. Many are branding it boring on social media, Readers can check out reactions below.

The only act that deserves appreciation in Rings of Power episode 7 was Elrond’s scenes with Durin. The Elf and Dwarf’s friendship or better put, the brotherly dynamic is on a winning streak since the start. Moreover, the hint at Balrog’s existence inside the mountain of Khazad-dûm where Mithril remains in abundance is a cliffhanger that won’t be explored anytime soon but was surely an interesting glimpse at the future events.

Let’s hope the Rings of Power finale has more to offer than the past seven episodes.
