In a shocking twist, Riverdale Season 2 saw Jughead and Betty end their relationship. The breakup took place in episode 8 titled “Chapter Twenty-One: House of the Devil.” In an attempt to keep Betty away from Serpents’ business, he decides to call it quits.
Currently, the series is on a winter hiatus and the couple’s future remains uncertain. Fans are not convinced that the couple is done for good. Meanwhile, Betty Cooper’s mother Alice Cooper is yet to reveal her reaction. Fans know that Alice has not been very supportive of Jughead and Betty’s romance.
In a recent interview with Young Hollywood, Madchen Amick, the Riverdale actress reveals why she is not very encouraging of “Bughead” romance. According to the actress, it is her ties with Serpents in the past.
“She (Alice Cooper) seems to go back and forth,” Amick said. “One moment she really likes him [Jughead] and the next moment she immediately judges him. And I think that’s her own Serpent past. I think that she understands why she (Betty) has fallen for Jughead. She knows that he is a good kid, but he also represents the Southside and the demons in her closet. So she is conflicted,” she explains.
For a long time, Alice did not reveal that she was a former member of the Southside Serpents. It was following her arrest, she decided to remove all the evidence that hinted at her association with the Serpents from the system archives.
Meanwhile, another scene confirmed her past association between Alice and FP. Fandom is speculating that they might be romantically involved in high school. A fan theory suggests that the child that she gave up for adoption might be Alice and FP’s love child.
