Robert Pattinson starrer The Batman box office aims $100-125M debut, pandemic-era record in sight

The Batman could be Warner Bros.’s Holy grail blockbuster of 2022 as the DC film looks to debut with a $100 million earning at the domestic box office. Furthermore, recent acclaimed responses suggest an additional 40M plus earning is achievable in the first 72 hours of release.

After Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Warner Bros. The Batman is doing its bit in reviving theatres amid this pandemic era. Since the embargo lift on Monday, mass positive reviews and social media reactions have early predictions, such as Variety reporting The Batman could land $100-$125 million at the domestic box office.

While first tracking projected an $80M opening – it seems the new round of praises from critics has upped the numbers for the Robert Pattinson starrer flick.  Though note, the report also claims $140 million on the opening weekend isn’t a far-fetched target as well.

The Batman could become the second pandemic era movie to earn 100M on the opening weekend

Audiences haven’t been receptive to all theatre titles, largely associated to OTT’s rise and Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel’s box office bomb was a clear indication that even a star-studded cast couldn’t aid the cash flow at the box office.

Warner Bros. 2022 releases haven’t been great at the box office. The last blockbuster was Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE earning $41M in the first three-day. In addition, popular franchise titles such as The Matrix: Resurrections and Space Jam failed to live up to its expectations. So it seems the studio’s (as well as director Matt Reeves) decision to make The Batman PG-13 and theatre exclusive is playing out in its favor, though Todd Phillip’s R-rated Joker still managed a record-breaking $93.5 million, despite facing criticisms for its on-screen violence.

Overall, The Batman’s global numbers could fall in track with No Way Home – especially since the movie secured a China release date, unlike Marvel Studios’ recent flicks. But the caped crusader won’t be shining the bat-light in Russia as Warner Bros. has halted its release due to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

The Batman releases on March 4, 2022.
