Earlier yesterday, it was finally confirmed by Deadline that Robert Pattinson will don the cape as The Batman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming DC film and his planned trilogy. Warner Bros. approved to have the actor take on the role over Nicholas Hoult and have closed a deal with the Twilight Zone actor.
Unfortunately, it looks like the upcoming Batman storyline will once again be a fresh start for the characters’ arc in the DC extended universe. The report also confirms that Pattinson’s The Batman “will in no way carry on the work that Ben Affleck did as the older Batman in Batman Vs. Superman and Justice League.”
Some fans’ were hoping for Pattinson’s version of the Dark Knight to be a prequel type story–showing a younger version of the character but following the same storyline as Ben Affleck’s Bat. Though Reeves’ film “will track Bruce Wayne in the formative stages of Batman, it will be a new take on the Batman.”
It is currently unknown how the movie will play a role in DC’s shared universe. but neither the studio nor the director seems to be bothered over laying down connections for the larger cinematic universe and seems to prioritize on establishing the character’s origin from his early days.
Anyhow, the casting has met with criticism as a section of fans aren’t too happy with the filmmakers’ choice of actor. But director Zack Snyder seems to have given his vote of approval on the casting. The director responded to the news on Vero, you can check it out below.
Pattinson became a star following his breakout success with the “Twilight franchise” but it also came with its own setbacks for his acting career. Fortunately, Pattinson seems to have turned things around since then, as he will next be seen starring in Christopher Nolan’s next film, “Tenet,” set to open July 17, 2020.
Pre-Production on The Batman is expected to start this summer but the project does not have an official filming start date yet.
