Rogue One was one of the most emotional movies in the Star Wars series. While it could have left every long time fans in tears at the end, it surprisingly managed to change the audience’s mood to an overwhelming delight by concluding with a fight scene between Darth Vader and a group of resistance soldiers.
The scene gave audience a taste of Vader’s force as he brutally put down every solider with his lightsaber. While we would all like to hear how the film crew brainstormed their way to filming that epic fight sequence, Rogue One director just revealed that it was initially not part of the plan.
Darth Vader Ending Scene Was Filmed Four Months Before Release
In an interview with WIRED, Gareth Edwards spoke about the filming of the fight scene with Vader. The director revealed that Rogue One Editor Jabez Olssen pitched the idea that Vader should have a “one last moment”.

Edwards and the rest of the team were also of one mind with Jabez. However, the thought to film a new scene for Vader was mentioned four months before the release of Rogue One.
Fortunately, Kathleen Kennedy “loved” the pitch, allowing the team to move ahead with the plan and include the epic scene in the movie. Edwards also reveals the secret behind the filming of the fight scene.
Edwards also spoke about his cameo as the resistance Solider in the ending scene. He reveals that his character goes to live on in Star Wars; A New Hope. Fans can check out the entire interview in the video below.
