Warner Bros. is currently facing a massive reconfiguration that has put a lot of films onto the back-burner including two of the highly anticipated comic book films- The Batman and Suicide Squad 2. Well now, there are new rumors teasing names of the comic book characters that could end up being the main antagonists in the upcoming two films.
According to Grace Randolph of Beyond the Trailer, The Penguin may make an appearance in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, but he will not be the main antagonist in the film. Going by the latest rumors, there are high chances that the filmmakers will utilize The Court of Owls as the main villain with Oswald Cobblepot playing the second baddie in The Batman film.
For those unfamiliar, The Court of Owls is a secret society run by some of Gotham city’s oldest and most influential families. The Court uses their assassins known as Talons to alter the course of the city’s history. It debuted in the New 52 era of DC Comics. In the comic book storyline, the Court of Owls placed an order to get Bruce Wayne killed after learning of his plans to overhaul Gotham.
It is rumored that The Batman will be a prequel film set 15 years in the past. So, this suggests Reeves will most probably use a younger actor for the role.
Now coming back to Suicide Squad 2, it’s already said that Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam will not be appearing in the film. As per rumors, director Gavin O’Connor considered the names of Zatanna, Raven, and Kara Zor-El! for the baddie role in Suicide Squad 2 before finally settling on Amazo, the android with the power to mimic his opponents’ skills and abilities.
This news is not confirmed or supported by any other journalists so fans should take this with a grain of salt.
We expect to hear more about The Batman and Suicide Squad 2 in the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con event.
