RUMOR: Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker Origin Movie Eyeing An R-Rating Due To Nudity

If a new report is to be believed Warners Bros. is targeting an R-rating for Joaquin Phoenix’s The Joker movie. Joker is notably one of the most iconic villains in the Batman universe. Set in the 1980s in Gotham City, the upcoming film will portray the clown as a failed comedian. It will likely dig deep into how the failed comedian turned into the Clown Prince of Crime.

According to a new report coming from Geeks Worldwide, the film will showcase female nudity in smaller roles. As the film will explore the real-life world of stand-up comedians who also perform in strip clubs, it is likely that some actresses will be cast as strippers in the film. The rating isn’t confirmed as of right now but the makers seems to be eyeing an R-rating.

Talking more about The Joker movie, the film is set to begin shooting in New York City on September 22. The shooting scheduled is expected to wrap around December-February of next year. Some of the actors who have already been confirmed for the film include Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime, along with Zazie Beetz ((Deadpool 2), Frances Conroy (American Horror Story), Robert De Niro (The King of Comedy),  Marc Maron (Almost Famous) and Bryan Callen.

The studio has described the film as “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”

The Joker movie has been allotted a budget of around $55 million which is significantly lower as compared to most superhero films. The film is rumored to be released under a new DC banner that would be completely separate from the already established DC cinematic universe.

The Hangover helmer Todd Phillips is directing The Joker. In addition to directing, Phillips is also co-writing the script with Scott Silver (8 Mile). Emma Tillinger Koskoff will produce Joker, with Richard Baratta executive producing.

The Joker is scheduled to debut in theatres on October 4, 2019, just a month before Wonder Woman 1984 hits theaters.
