Amid the news of Henry Cavill’s exit from Superman role, it was also confirmed that the studio was, in fact, planning on including a cameo of the red-caped superhero in Shazam!. Unfortunately, the report also stated that due to scheduling conflicts, Cavill wouldn’t be able to make an appearance in the DC film.
At the moment, it seems like nothing is certain and there’s a possibility that negotiations are still ongoing between Cavill’s management team and Warner Bros. but even if the actors’ schedule had allowed him to film a cameo, it looks like his appearance wasn’t as lengthy or important as many would have expected but rather a nice nod to the DCEU continuity.
After THR’s report, The Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez also put out a piece confirming the news. Later on, the movie journalist shared some details regarding the exit on his Instagram story.
While talking about the movie in his story update, Gonzalez also leaked some details regarding the Man of Steel’s cameo scene in Shazam!. He stated that Superman’s appearance was set for the ending.
“Spoiler alert. For what it’s worth, the Superman cameo in Shazam! is supposed to be Clark at the end of the movie meeting with Billy Batson, the kid who plays Shazam and telling him “Hey, I’m gonna keep an eye on you” that kind of thing.”
Back in August, Forbes’ Mark Hughes also stated that “for now it didn’t work out getting Superman into Shazam!” But there’s still a long way to go for the release of Shazam! and a possible good outcome of this issue could allow the filmmakers to shoot a Superman cameo scene even during the later last months of the film’s nearing release.
The rumor of a Superman cameo in Shazam! first began when Cavill’s rep Dany Garcia put out a cryptic tweet.
Shazam! hits theatres on April 5, 2019.
