SDCC 2022 day 1 recap: Dungeons & Dragons movie tavern experience, MCU Phase 4 booth, House of the Dragon immersive den, The Walking Dead final episodes posters & more

SDCC 2022 officially kicked off unveiling its grandeur on preview night, from Dungeons & Dragons experience zones to The Rings of Power immersive arena, this year’s San Diego Comic-Con events have laid out all things that interest movie and TV fans in the spotlight around the exhibit. That includes impressive collectibles like Sam Wilson’s Captain America. Also, Game of Thrones fans can look forward to interactions with Westeros villagers and the world of House Targaryen at the House of the Dragon activation den. Here’s a recap of all activities set up around the Gaslamp Quarters, promo banners put around buildings for AMC’s The Walking dead season 11, The CW’s The Flash and Superman & Lois, Star Trek shows & much more.

San Diego Comic-Con 2022 is officially underway with attendees thronging immersive arenas, grabbing exciting giveaways and purchasing SDCC exclusive posters like MONDO’s The Suicide Squad variant. For context, SDCC Day 1 better known as preview night is the day before the main events which gives attendees and Journalists ample time to grab their tickets and stroll around different areas and learn about the exciting panels scheduled for the next four days.

Marvel Studios MCU Phase 4 booth

Starting off with Marvel Studios’ booth, MCU Phase 4 costumes of Moon Knight, Scarlet Witch & Doctor Strange from Multiverse of Madness, Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor and Thor Odinson from Love and Thunder were all on display. In addition, A plethora of action figurines from Disney Plus’ What If..? series’ T’Challa as Star-Lord, vinyl collectible bust of Loki and many more were all around Marvel Entertainment areas. A Stan Lee figure on the show floor was spotted too. Meanwhile, Banner ads for She-Hulk were all over the exhibit, the Disney Plus series is expected to be a part of Marvel Studios’ Hall-H announcements.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Tavern Experience

With Stranger Things 4’s D&D references amping up the already humungous fanbase – Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is hoping to be the center of attention with its Tavern Experience zone. A first look at the D&D movie’s main cast is being showcased as a video banner ad. The promo shows Chris Pine, Michele Rodriguez, Rege-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis and Hugh Grant appearing in their fantasy armor attire. An official poster was released as well with a silhouette-styled artwork of the heroes.

SDCC’s Star Wars booth for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, The Mandalorian & more

Star Wars geeks also got a glimpse of some of the spinoffs from a Galaxy Far, Far away – for instance, the costumes worn by Boba Fett, Din Djarin, Bo-Katan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, Mon Mothma, Cassian Andor, and B2EMO from Andor. A special Star Wars: The Black series exclusive figurine at Hasbro booth also drew a lot of eyes.

House of the Dragon Den Experience zone

Over at the realm of Westeros, HBO has built a huge activation zone for GOT fans to take a step inside the castle of House Targaryen, and meet villagers of King’s landing strolling around with trade establishments on the side. A guide also helps attendees understand the periodic setting and takes them on a journey, like explaining what happens inside the Dragons den where the eggs are kept. SDCC attendees could also take a seat on the Iron Throne.

The Rings of Power SDCC banners

While there’s no immersive zone for the Lord of the Rings prequel series, Prime Video’s marketing for The Rings of Power may have bested HBO’s House of the Dragon and others. Huge advertisements stretching across buildings have taken over the infrastructures around SDCC. A security metal scanner wrapped with a character poster of Elanor “Nori” Brandyfoot was spotted too so there’s no question Amazon is getting the series known on all fronts for its upcoming streaming release this September. Fans also hope a new trailer will be unveiled during the Rings of Power Hall-H panel.

The Walking Dead’s Last Episodes

AMC’s promo banner for The Walking Dead Last Episodes ensures the spotlight is all over the forthcoming conclusion. The Elevators at the arena were plastered with character portrait ads of Daryl (Norman Reedus), Carol (Melissa McBride), Ezekiel (Khary Payton), Jerry (Cooper Andrews), Aaron (Ross Marquand), Lydia (Cassady McClincy), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Rosita (Christian Serratos), Eugene (Josh McDermit), Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Connie (Lauren Ridloff). Rumors are that exciting announcements will be revealed at SDCC so TWD fans are hoping for an update on the untitled Rick Grimes movie.

Other than the big players dominating at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Netflix also made its mark with The Sandman, The Gray Man immersive zones. The spy-thriller franchise from Russo Brothers has an escape room-styled zone called the training program where participants can test their wit, strength and speed.
