SDCC 2022 Day 3 highlights: Rings of Power, John Wick 4, The Walking Dead Last Episodes, Rick Grimes series, Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR & other announcements and trailers

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Hall-H’s vibrant presentation was the panel SDCC needed to make 2022’s Comic-Con an exhilarating experience – that, coupled with panels from AMC’s The Walking Dead, Keanu Reeves starring in BRZRKR film and John Wick 4 trailer. So take a look at the brief highlight of all announcements, trailers, posters, etc rolled on San Diego Comic-con day 3.

Prime Video kicked off the Hall-H fever with a sizzle reel followed by a breathtaking live orchestra by composer Bear McCreary from a theme of Rings of Power composed by veteran Howard Shore. Stephen Colbert moderated the crew panel quizzing executive producers J.P Payne, Patrick McKay and Lindsey Weber about the Second Age setting & working with J. R. R. Tolkien experts to bring non-canon characters to life in Rings of Power. Payne also teased the Fall of Numenor as his favorite from the Second Age.

A brand new trailer was screened and begins with the Elves enjoying peace after a long war, “We thought our joys would be unending. We thought our light would never dim.” Scenes of elves in boat are shown when a meteor arrives, presumably teasing Sauron. Speaking of who,  Anson Boon’s eerie presence in the trailer has fans speculating he plays Sauron. However, the second Dark Lord could shapeshift in the Second Age, begging the question if he appears as Annatar in Rings of Power. Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) is shown touching the Palantiri orb and gets a premonition of the impending war.

Due to the sheer size of Rings of Power cast, the actors were brought on stage in three folds, starting with Owain Arthur, Robert Aramayo, Sophia Nomvete and Benjamin Walker. Next up was Daniel Weyman, Megan Richards, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Sara Zwanboghi, Tyroe Muhafidin and Nazanin Boniadi. Lastly, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Morfydd Clark, Charlie Vickers and Lloyd Owen were brought on stage to discuss. Readers can check out the entire presentation below.

Few clips from the series were screened as well, one showed Elrond and Durin cutting a stone, Nori and Poppy coming in contact with a giant in the fiery crater, and elves battling their oppressors.

After the LOTR panel was another powerhouse franchise, The Walking Dead. It’s a bittersweet moment for the TWD family at this year’s Hall-H, especially for Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira and the rest of the remaining main cast as they indulged in their last The Walking Dead panel. The Last Episodes of season 11 concludes the series that began in October 2010. Moderated by Chris Hardwick, the panel included cast Reedus, Melissa McBride, Josh McDermitt, Lauren Ridloff, Ross Marquand, Seth Gilliam, Cailey Fleming and Michael James Shaw. Showrunner Angela Kang and Veteran special effects make-up artist Greg Nicotero was part of the panel as well. Nicotero even addressed his experience directing The Walking Dead finale. One of the standout moments of the hour long panel was Reedus’s heartfelt farewell message for the TWD fans.

A 3-minute trailer for The Walking Dead Last Episodes was screened which ends, by introducing a new variant of walkers that can climb walls and open doors. Later, the panel saw a surprise appearance from Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira with Scott Gimple. The duo stars confirmed that a 6 episode one-off is in the works and it will conclude Rick Grimes and Michonne’s story.

Lastly, Collider’s Directors on Directing hosted by Steven Weintraub had Deadpool helmer and creator of Love, Death +Robots Tim Miller, Andrew Stanton and Chad Stahelski in presence. In addition David Fincher, Willem Dafoe and few others also made virtual appearances.

During the Directors on Directors panel, Reeves unveiled the new poster for John Wick 4 along with a teaser showing glimpses of Baba Yaga engaged in laijutsu-Esque combat though not without some iconic guns blazing action sequences. John Wick Chapter 4 is arriving in theatres on March 24, 2023. The trailer starts off with a fresh face Hiroyuki Sanada as Shimazu and later introduces newcomers Donnie Yen’s Caine engaged in a sword fight with Mr. Wick and offers first look at Bill Skarsgard’s Marquis.

Also, in the same panel – Stahelski revealed he’s trying to get a Highlander film made starring Henry Cavill. Though it’s yet to be picked up for development, the John Wick director assured it’s still happening.
