It’s safe to say Olivia Colman‘s Sonya Falsworth gives off main character energy more than Nick Fury in Secret Invasion episode 5. From witnessing Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) losing the trust of his fellow Skrulls, and some impressive gunslinger action scenes from G’iah (Emilia Clarke) and let’s not forget the Avengers DNA revelation – the penultimate episode teases what is at stake ( the brink of World War III) unless Nick Fury saves the day. Here’s a highlight of the best moments according to fans on social media.
Nick Fury and his mysterious friend on call at the end of Secret Invasion episode 5 seem to be the only forces standing against Gravik. Luckily for Fury, Sonya Falsworth is also an ally, and watching her take charge in London by finding the location of the Daltons – the brains behind the Super-Skrull machine, Falsworth is the perfect temporary Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) replacement to aid the Avengers founder. Though watching Sonya Falsworth and Fury drive off listening to Stormzy- Audacity was the most unexpected twist seeing them as a duo.
Speaking of Avengers – the penultimate episode reveals what Gravik is mainly after – the DNA of Earth’s mightiest superheroes and yes, “even Carol Danvers”. So why does Gravik know of its existence? Well, Nick put Gravik on the collector task – making him solely responsible for the invention of Super-Skrull, “Why do you think I came back?”.
Meanwhile, with Nick Fury taking the fall for Maria Hill’s death, moving around unnoticed requires taking a page from Skrull’s book. Fury uses the cloaking device known as Widow’s Veil, as the name suggests – Its first appearance was in Captain America: The Winter Soldier used by Natasha a.k.a Black Widow. But more than the name-dropping for Widow – we are also introduced to Rick Mason – the former SHIELD agent who was an ally for Natasha during Civil War and also helped her in the 2021’s Black Widow movie by helping her acquire a Quinjet.

Episode 5 also delivers some revelations like the fake Rhodes’ (Don Cheadle) Skrull identity as Raava. In the comics, Raava is a rogue Skrull pirate and has appeared alongside Black Bolt. But she is unable to shapeshift in the source material earning her the name “Un-Skrulled but the live-action adaptation has taken some creative liberty to make changes to her attributes.
Fury finally confronts Rhodey but is unable to kill the female Skrull due to the heat he already carries from being framed for Maria Hill’s death. Though the biggest stake at hand is the President potentially approving a missile strike on the New Skrullos location where the real Rhodey and several other leaders are held.
The most dreadful moment in Secret Invasion episode 5 is the confirmation that Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) is dead. G’iah cremates her father with the help of Priscilla. “Travel well to your beyond, Father”. It seems like G’iah may have to take her father’s place as the next General of the Skrull Council after Gravik’s assault against his own. While the Skrulls attempt to overthrow him, it sadly only results in Gravik killing Beto.
Quake fans are still holding hope over a possible cameo in the Secret Invasion finale. The ending cliffhanger of Fury on call has some speculating it could be one of the Agents of SHIELD members while others hope for a Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) cameo. Even so, it should be noted several insiders have sadly claimed Quake does not make an appearance in the series.

The Old Nick Fury sporting his menacing eye patch is back at the end of Secret Invasion episode 5. Is the lone former SHIELD director enough to take on Gravik in his Super-Skrull state? Perhaps G’iah may be the trump card to throw at him? We’ll find out when Secret Invasion episode 6 airs on 26 July.
