‘Setting up Quake’s return’: Fans react to Across the Spider-Verse easter egg of Chloe Bennet’s Agents of SHIELD character

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse appears to suggest Quake a.k.a Daisy Johnson, a character that became a fan-favorite from ABC’s Agents of SHIELD, exists in Earth-1610. An eagle-eyed fan spotted a reference to the inhuman superhero and the AOS fandom is excited over what the easter egg could mean in the larger picture.

Similar to Netflix’s street-level Marvel heroes – ABC’s Agents of SHIELD is yet to be addressed as canon events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Kevin Feige has managed to bring back The Defenders starting with Charlie Cox‘s Daredevil and Jon Bernthal‘s Punisher – the studio has long ignored AOS fans’ plea to see Chloe Bennet‘s Skye, Ming-Na Wen‘s Melinda May & several other SHIELD agents in upcoming Marvel projects.

While it was speculated Skye/Daisy Johnson has an appearance in Secret Invasion, Bennet sadly dismissed those claims. Though on the bright side, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has included a reference suggesting Quake exists in Miles Morales’ universe.

The scene in question appears when Brooklyn’s Spider-Man makes a stop at his dorm room. The bulletin board on the left of the window has a New York Bulleting newspaper pinned. A closer detailed look reveals Daisy Johnson’s picture with the headline, “Hero or Rogue?” with the sub-headline, “Police step up city-wide search”.

A character from the MCU makes a minor appearance in the animated Spider-Man movie, but it’s not whom you would expect.

AOS viewers would remember seeing the same newspaper in season 4 when Quake went rogue for a brief period. While the Sony Pictures’ animated Spider-Verse sequel also refers to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man from Doctor Strange and even Donald Glover‘s The Prowler – it’s more or less a fan-service moment and is unlikely to be a hint to Marvel Studios’ plans though one can hope.

Speaking of speculations, the hope for Quake’s comeback has fans hinging on MCU choosing the same route as Daredevil’s return. Marvel Studios could ignore addressing the larger arc of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to just include Chloe’s Skye/Daisy Johnson.

It’s intriguing to see Miles having the newspaper but it is possible he was rather on the lookout for Gwen Stacy and may have been drawn to it due to the eye-catchy line, “Mysterious Woman Spotted”. Nevertheless, it is an interesting choice of easter egg to turn heads.

Some AOS stans also noted how the inhuman superhero from SHIELD is canon in the Spider-Verse 2 universe before MCU got around to it.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently in theaters.
