Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings first trailer had quite a few interesting moments for fans but one such scene suggests that the origin film could revisit the island known as Madripoor. If so, one can only wonder if the location will play a larger role in the MCU.
The Disney Plus series, Falcon and the Winter Soldier recently introduced the criminal breeding island, Madripoor, a place that has served as a haven for the lawless. In the Marvel universe, the fictional island ties in with the world of mutant, X-Men and especially Wolverine. But nonetheless, it’s known for housing some of the worst criminals.
MCU’s Madripoor island first introduced in The Falcon and Winter Soldier
The island’s neon-themed city which mostly reminded us of the John Wick films – might not be the last time it appears in the MCU. And surprisingly enough, a shot from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings also has a scene quite similar to it.
The shot in the new trailer shows Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) fighting against Death Dealer and other criminals who seem to be working with Wenwu (Tony Leung) and the organization known as Ten Rings. The fight cuts to another shot to offer a glimpse of the neon-covered bright sign background. You can check it out in the trailer below.
Madripoor official website had a nod to Shang-Chi, X-Men’s Jean Grey and more
It sure looks like a stretch without some added context. But let’s consider the fact that the Ten Rings have been a part of the MCU since the start (Iron Man) and have also made a few cameos in other Marvel properties. Moreover, the organization has only been infamous for its criminal incidents and it could be argued that the gang would have a prominent presence in the island.
It must also be noted that the new Madripoor website launched by Marvel Studios also had a reference to Shang-Chi and other X-Men characters. An area on the website which can be accessed using passwords showed ships listed in Madripoor’s Buccaneer Bay with a nod to Shang-Chi. But for reasons unknown, Marvel later scrubbed the references.
