Asher Angel has announced his arrival on the set of Warner Bros. upcoming standalone film Shazam by posting two behind-the-screen photos.
In the two BTS pictures shared by Asher Angel on Instagram, one of them seems to be a sort of promotional shoot taken on a soundstage. The ‘Shazam’ word has a hashtag with two lightning bolt emojis or belt.
The second photo that Angel posted doesn’t reveal anything at all. It features the DC logo with a sticky note that has “Films” written on it.
The inclusion of Asher Angel, who will play the younger version of Billy Batson, was announced in November this year. Not long ago, Warner Bros. had hired child actors Ian Chen and Jovan Armand to essay the role of Billy Batson’s friends (Eugene Choi and Pedro Peña respectively) in the film.
While Angel will play the young Billy Batson, it will be Zachary Levi who will play the adult and more muscular version of Shazam. Levi had in November mentioned that Shazam will do for DCEU what Guardians of the Galaxy did for Marvel.
Shazam narrates the story of Billy Batson, who by uttering the magic word ‘Shazam’ can transform himself into an adult superhero.
Directed by David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation), Shazam has been in the development stage for a long time. The film got the attention of DC fans only when Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson announced that he would play Black Adam, the villain.
However, some reshuffling has been done over the period, and Black Adam will now have his own solo movie. The two might clash on screen in Shazam 2 if everything goes well for the DCEU.
Written by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke, Shazam is expected to hit the theaters sometime in April 2019.
