The production work on the DC Extended Universe’s highly awaited superhero film Shazam! kicked off last week. One of the film’s main stars took to social media to share a picture from the sets of Shazam!
Asher Angel, who is portraying the character of the younger version of titular hero Shazam, uploaded a picture of his chair on-set on Twitter with the caption “Day 1” and the hashtag “#SHAZAMMovie.” The chair had the character’s name Billy Batson on it. You can check out the picture below.
Recently, Zachary Levi also teased the reveal of his full superhero costume on social media. In the picture, Levi can be seen wearing the full Shazam! costume, but under a jacket. The actor has also been buffing up for the role to match the character’s looks from the comics.
The upcoming DCEU film is being touted as a humorous and lighthearted movie. The film is all about a teenage boy who transforms himself into an adult superhero by saying the word Shazam. The main star cast of the film includes Asher Angel as young Billy Batson, Zachary Levi as Shazam, and Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. The film is being directed by David F. Sandberg.
“I think it’s very funny,” Sandberg, wrote on Reddit last month, “but the humor comes more from the situations rather than quippy one-liners (for people who read too much into things, that’s not intended as a dig at Marvel or anyone in particular. Quippy one-liners can be great) The important thing for me is to mix the funny with a threat that’s serious and to also have dramatic moments. All funny all the time takes the weight out of it.”
Angel also mentioned during an interview last year that he had a lot of fun while giving look tests for the film.
“I was self-taping for it, and then they wanted to call me in for a test,” the young actor said. “So I came into Los Angeles, I tested with [director David Sandberg]; it was so much fun. I just felt so comfortable.”
Shazam! is scheduled to get released on April 5, 2019.
