Finally, the first trailer for Shazam! is here. After actor Zachary Levi and director David F. Sandberg brought the trailer to Hall H stage at SDCC, the trailer has now been made available to all online.
The trailer shows everything fans need to know about Billy Batson and the event that leads him to gain his new abilities by uttering the magical word, ‘SHAZAM!’. But clearly, Billy has no idea how to deal with his new found power. Fortunately, Jack Dylan Grazer’s Freedy Freeman steps in as his mentor in helping Billy understand his abilities.
Readers also get a glimpse of the Wizard played by Djmon Hounsou but we don’t get to see his face. Rather, he just insists Billy on saying the magical word, ‘SHAZAM’. From the looks of it, Billy doesn’t seem to receive any instruction and rather is left in his transformed state after saying the magical word. The trailer shows him running to Freedy Freeman to help him.
Billy, in his transformed state then begins to experiment with his new found abilities. We see punch through a wall, testing out his super strength. Shazam also tries to test out his ability to fly but clearly, he still has a long way to go.
Fans can clearly notice the tonal shift in the DCEU from this trailer. And Zachary Levi seems perfect for the role. A tweet put out by THR film reporter Borys Kit revealed that director David F. Sandberg had in fact interviewed over 100 people for the role of Shazam!. but Levi had what it takes to grab on to the role. “He feels like a big kid. He’s very enthusiastic. Others would play him like, ‘Oh, I’m dumber now,” said the director. fans can find the tweet and the trailer below.
