Shazam! is one of the movies that has been officially added to the line-up of movies that will be releasing from the DC camp soon. Director David F. Sandberg has been confirmed as the director of the movie and going by the latest update, work on the movie has begun as well.
Sandberg took to his Instagram account to indicate that pre-production on Shazam! has begun. The picture that he posted has been taken at Warner Bros. Studio in Los Angeles and sees a can of coke placed on a table.
This perhaps hints at the fact that the director will be starting work on the movie from scratch and build up on that. There is a lot of work that he has to do when it comes to the movie.
For instance, in the coming months, he has to finalize the cast, crew, look for locations and then prep and film the movie for its confirmed release date.
A recent report revealed that the director would be looking for two actors to portray the roles of Billy Batson and Shazam respectively. No actors have been confirmed yet but some names have been suggested for the role of DC’s mightiest mortal.
Dwayne Johnson who was a couple of years before confirmed to play Shazam’s arch nemesis Black Adam wants Armie Hammer to play the role. He did not mention his name directly but instead mentioned the name Lone Ranger, in which Hammer was in a leading role.
Apart from Hammer, names like Derek Theler, Alan Ritchson, Brandon Molale, Channing Tatum and even Liam Hemsworth have been associated with Shazam. However, no confirmation on who has been roped in to play the role has been made yet.
Out of the aforementioned names, Theler and Ritchson have been actively campaigning for the part and fans have come out in support for both the actors. It might be a little bit difficult for Theler right now especially since he has joined a Marvel TV series called New Warriors, in which he will be playing the role of Mister Immortal.
The reason why it is a problem because the series exists in the MCU and reportedly Marvel actors are not allowed to take on DC roles. But since the pre-production has begun, it should only be a matter of time before an actor is revealed.
Shazam! will be an origin story of DC’s mightiest mortal who by just uttering the word “Shazam” gets the powers of six Gods like Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury.
Henry Cavill’s Superman is also rumored to be a part of the movie but it remains to be seen if he is confirmed or not. Shazam! will release on April 5, 2019.
