Shazam! Fury of the Gods trailer Batman, The Flash scene suggests Zack Snyder’s Justice League is canon, Snyderverse fans react

The SDCC trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods references scenes from Zack Snyder’s Justice League implying the director’s cut is canonical instead of the 2017’s theatrical cut overseen by Joss Whedon. Some Snyder fans are taking comfort from the Easter egg shots as an encouraging sign the new regime could be open to exploring the original DCEU arc.

Warner Bros. Hall-H panel faces mixed reactions due to its tricky situation with Henry Cavill’s Superman. Nonetheless, Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ presentation received much praise from audiences and fans on social media alike. What’s more, the trailer shows scenes of The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and The Batman (Ben Affleck) from Zack Snyder’s Justice League which continues to generate a lot of buzz among DC folks, as can be seen in reactions below.

DC fans would remember that 2019’s Shazam also had Batman Easter eggs. Also, Its infamous Superman cameo with a stunt double received a lot of criticism for not using Cavill. Interestingly, while the sequel follows in its footstep embracing DCEU’s connectivity, there still seems to be no direction regarding a Superman and Shazam crossover or Shazam and Black Adam. Even so, when asked regarding making a Shazam! 3 at San Diego Comic-Con, star Zachary Levi was hopeful and based its fruition on the success of the second installment.

Meanwhile, the Shazam! Fury of the Gods trailer offered a first look at Rachel Zegler’s character wearing golden armor. She plays one of the Daughters of Atlas alongside Helen Mirren’s Hespera and Lucy Liu’s Kalypso. Though it’s unclear if Zegler’s role is among the heroes are villains.

Aside from the cool DC references, Shazam! 2 trailer also has an Annabelle easter egg. The doll can be spotted when Shazam is bawling his feelings to the pediatrician. There’s even a Fast & Furious nod when Shazam having a chat with Hespera.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Asher Angel in the lead role as Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Djimon Hounsou as Wizard, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez, Megan Good as Superhero Darla, Ross Butler as Superhero Eugene, Adam Brody as superhero Freddy, D.J. Cortrona as Superhero Pedro, Currey as Mary Bromfield/Superhero Mary, Jovan Armand as Pedro Pena and Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley.
