Shazam! Synopsis Confirms A Fun Film About A Kid Exploring His Superhero Abilities

DC Comics highly awaited film Shazam! has finally entered the production stage. Warner Bros. has released an official detailed plot synopsis for the movie. The movie was first announced four years back alongside the rest of the mainline DCEU films in 2014. Now that Aquaman has entered the post-production stage, the production work on Shazam! has finally begun.

The story as mentioned in the synopsis revolves around a 14-year-old teenager named Billy Batson who has the ability to transform himself into a mighty adult superhero with the power of six mythological gods by just saying the word Shazam. The story is primarily set in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. You can read the entire Shazam! synopsis below.

“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”

Directed by Annabelle: Creation fame director David F. Sandberg, Shazam! features Zachary Levi playing Shazam, Asher Angel playing the role of young Billy Batson, and Mark Strong playing the main antagonist Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.

The film also stars Jack Dylan Grazer as Billy’s best friend, Freddy, Mary (Grace Fulton) as Billy’s sister, Darla played by Faithe Herman, Pedro played by Jovan Armand, Eugene played by Ian Chen, Cooper Andrews and Marta Milans as the family’s foster parents, Victor and Rosa Vasquez, and Ron Cephas Jones as the Wizard.

Peter Safran is the producer of the film along with Christopher Godsick, Jeffrey Chernov, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia as executive producers on board.

It’s interesting to see Dwayne Johnson is also on board as an executive producer with the project. Although the actor’s character, Black Adam has been confirmed not to appear in the standalone film, it could be that the project would be the start of an arc which will eventually introduce Johnson’s villain character, perhaps in DCEU’s upcoming Suicide Squad 2.

Shazam! is scheduled to set movie theaters on April 5, 2019.
