If you have seen Zachary Levi’s recent picture on Twitter, you would have noticed that the actor has put on a lot of muscle to do justice to his big superhero role in David F. Sandberg’s upcoming Shazam! movie. Levi has been working out with his personal trainer Eric Blackmon since October to get in shape for his titular superhero role.
In a recently released episode of the “Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum,” Zachary Levi revealed how much weight he’s gained until now. He told Rosenbaum that to get in the superhero shape, he has been working out for an hour and fifteen minutes every day for 5 to 6 days a week and that has paid off with a significant weight gain in a very short span of time. When Rosenbaum guessed Levi’s weight to be around 215, he corrected him saying that he is 220 pounds.
“220. Before I got the role, I was about 200 pounds,” the Shazam! the actor said. “I’ve hovered around 200 pounds most of my adult life.”
Levi explained that other than the workout, food also played a major role in gaining that extra twenty pounds in just a month and a half. He revealed that he’s currently eating around 3700 calories a day along with supplements like fish oil, Omega-3s to bulk up. When asked about what he eats, Levi replied saying it’s pretty clean and lean.
“I do meal delivery,” the actor said. “It’s part of the job. They [DC/Warner Bros.] have been very good to me when it comes to taking care of this.”
Levi also revealed that he will begin filming for Shazam! in February and that will go through May. Warner Bros. recently released the official plot synopsis for Shazam!. The story revolves around a teenage boy who has the ability to transform himself into a mighty adult superhero by just saying the word Shazam. The film is being directed by Annabelle: Creation fame director David F. Sandberg. The star cast includes Zachary Levi playing Shazam, Asher Angel playing young Billy Batson, and Mark Strong playing the main antagonist Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.
The movie is slated to hit theatres on April 5, 2019.
