Warner Bros. and DC Films Shazam! will see a teenage boy named Billy Batson grow big into a superhero all of a sudden, all thanks to a wizard who bestows him with great powers. While the boy gets a superhero body, his mind will still be of a kid who has a lot of fantasies.
Recently, when a fan reached out to Shazam! director David F. Sandberg on Twitter asking if the idea to include the Fortnite floss dance in the film was geared to make it more relatable to kids, he revealed that it was Zachary Levi’s idea. Sandberg admitted that he thought the dance was quite silly until fans mentioned it online.
“It was just something Zac did. I thought it was a silly dance he came up with until I saw people mention it online,” Sandberg’s tweet read.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, comic book writer Geoff Johns discussed why he pushed for a Shazam! movie during his time as Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment from 2016 to 2018.
“Conceptually I think he’s a perfect character, tonally he’s so unique, his books were so unique, and his world is potentially really unique. I really wanted to see Shazam out there in a much bigger way,” Johns told EW. “David Sandberg has directed an amazing, fun movie that just feels different than anything else that’s out there, from any company. I’m excited for people to see it, but more importantly, I’m excited for Shazam as a character to get out there in a bigger way — in movies, comics, everything.”
The second Shazam! trailer is rumored to be released by the end of the week. The film’s cast and crew members were spotted filming at the Philadelphia Museum of Art over the weekend. The shooting lasted from about 6 p.m. through midnight on Sunday.
Shazam! is scheduled for release on April 5, 2019.
