Showtime’s Homeland Season 8 Begins Filming On February 5, Details

Showtime’s Homeland will be one of the most anticipated TV shows to be ending this year. The network is just days away from beginning productions on its eighth and final season.

According to a listings report from Production Weekly, Homeland season 8 will begin filming on February 8 and it is expected to take place in Morocco and New Mexico. It looks like Claire Danes’ Carrie Mathison will be back on the front lines of the War on Terror.

An earlier report from TVline this month revealed that Homeland season 8 will be set in Afghanistan so it looks like Morocco will be the location used to portray as Afghanistan.

The listings also reveal that filming will go on for a period of 7 months and will wrap on September 25. Homeland season 8 was expected to premiere this June but unfortunately, it looks like it will be delayed further and will premiere sometime this fall.

Initially, The show creators planned on setting Homeland season 8 in Israel. Even showrunner Alexa Ganza told EW last year, “We’ll tell a very contained story, hopefully in Israel.” The EP also said that the final season would likely “start fresh” with “a fairly big time jump” following what unfolded in Season 7.

[Season 7 arranges] all the pieces on the chessboard to make that a proper finale for the story we’ve been telling,” Gansa added. “We get to play this last season in D.C with the intention of taking us overseas for one last chapter. Season 8 will be overseas somewhere. We get to play a story with larger national stakes in season 7 and we’ll go back to a smaller intelligence-based season in 8. We get to pull out all the stops this year and then get to the emotional heart of things in season 8.”

Last week, it was revealed by Deadline that two pivotal characters who had recurring roles in Homeland season 4, Nimrat Kaur and Numan Acar are returning for the final season.

Kaur plays as Tasneem Qureshi, “a member of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence,” and Acur as Haissam Haqqani, “a high-priority target and Taliban leader.”

The bidding farewell season 8 will consist of 12 episodes and will return sometime this fall.
