Not much information is currently known about Sony Pictures’ highly awaited Spider-Man spinoff film Silver & Black, which was rumored to have been indefinitely delayed. The film has been in Sony’s pipeline for quite some time now. Thankfully, Silver & Black director Gina Prince-Bythewood has some new update about the film.
While speaking to Screen Rant about her work on the upcoming Marvel Television and Freeform series Cloak & Dagger, Bythewood also talked about the progress on Silver & Black. She revealed that the team is taking ample time to complete and fine-tune the film’s script making sure it turns out to be a great one.
“The update is just really pounding out the script. It all starts with the script,” Bythewood said. “You gotta have a great script so we want to make sure that’s right before we jump in.”
Notably, the film’s script has gone through a lot of hands including Westworld showrunner Lisa Joy and Thor: Ragnarok’s Chris Yost. Back in February, it was announced that Sony had roped in writers Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet to pen down the Spider-Man spinoff film Silver & Black.
Beer is known for his work on King vs Godzilla, Transformers, as well as in the upcoming Chaos Walking, Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek. Robertson-Dworet has worked on the script for Captain Marvel, which is currently in production under Marvel Studios, and the Alicia Vikander’s Tomb Raider reboot.
Sony Pictures currently has several Spider-Man spinoff films in development. Tom Hardy starring Venom is the first on the list which will hit theaters this October. It is expected that Venom’s success or failure will likely decide if Silver & Black will ever see the light of the day.
Silver & Black is currently set to hit theaters on February 8, 2019. Considering the fact that the film doesn’t still have a script yet, it seems the film’s release might get delayed.
