Solo: A Star Wars Story- Chewbacca Is Getting An Official Theme Music

The Wookiee smuggler Chewbacca is finally getting the recognition it deserves in the form of his own official theme music in the soon-to-be-released Solo: A Star Wars Story. Star Wars characters Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo already have their own themes composed by veteran composer John Williams.

During a Q&A session on the official Star Wars Twitter account, director Ron Howard revealed that Chewbacca is getting a brand new composition in his name courtesy Solo composer John Powell. Howard revealed that Powell was roped in to score the music for Solo: A Star Wars Story on the recommendation of longtime Star Wars composer John Williams.

“John Williams himself suggested that John Powell would be a great candidate to not only use the classic Star Wars themes but also the new theme that John Williams himself wrote for Han Solo,” Howard said. “John Powell wrote a lot of great themes, including the first-ever Chewbacca theme.”

Although Powell is scoring the film and also the Chewbacca theme, Star Wars legend John Williams is also contributing to the project by composing a theme for Han Solo aptly titled “The Adventures of Han.” Notably, the award-winning composer has contributed to all eight Skywalker saga films in the Star Wars franchise to date.

Solo: A Star Wars Story will showcase how a young Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) turned into an acclaimed smuggler. The film will detail the origin of Han Solo’s friendship with Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian. The movie stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Donald Glover as Lando, Emilia Clarke as Qi’Ra, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Michael K. Williams, Woody Harrelson, and Thandie Newton.

Solo: A Star Wars Story will debut in theaters on May 25, 2018. The film is set to premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival this week. It has a runtime of 2 hours and 15 minutes.
