Solo: A Star Wars Story Fan Reactions Suggest Film Has Met Expectations

The new Star Wars Han Solo origin film titled Solo: A Star Wars Story is finally out in theatres. The film stars Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Emilia Clarke as Qi’Ra, and Donald Glover as the young Lando Calrissian. The star cast also includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Michael K. Williams, Woody Harrelson, and Thandie Newton.

Directed by Ron Howard, Solo: A Star Wars Story takes audiences back in time to show how a young Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) became the legendary smuggler. The film introduces audiences to Solo’s adventures with criminal gangs and shows how he met Chewbacca and Lando as well as how he came into possession of the iconic ship, the Millennium Falcon.

The film was initially directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. But the director duo was asked to step down just three weeks before principal photography was scheduled to wrap. Ron Howard, who was roped in to finish Solo: A Star Wars Story, reshot almost around 70 percent of Lord and Miller’s footage, as he wanted to go back to the spirit of the original trilogy. Due to expensive reshoots, Solo: A Star Wars Story has become the most expensive Star Wars film ever made. It is reported that the film likely cost over $260 million.

Audiences seem to have a mixed reaction to Solo: A Star Wars Story. While some of them feel that the Han Solo standalone film stood out on fans’ expectations, some others think that the prequel film isn’t as visually stunning as The Last Jedi.

Fans loved Alden Ehrenreich’s portrayal of Han Solo and Donald Glover performance as young Lando Calrissian in the film. Fortunately, the majority of the people enjoyed the adventurous and thrilling ride in a galaxy far away. Overall, it seems to be another win-win for Disney-Lucasfilm with the Star Wars franchise.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is expected to rake in around $170 million in the opening holiday weekend.
