Sony Might Be Able To Get Sam Raimi Back For Another Spider-Man Film

Thomas Haden Church who played the villain Sandman in Spider-Man 3 believes that there is a strong possibility that director Sam Raimi will return to the franchise in future. To recall, Sam Raimi directed the original Spider-Man film trilogy namely Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Spider-Man 3 (2007). The films were based on the fictional Marvel Comics comic book series The Amazing Spider-Man.

While Raimi had worked for months on a potential Spider-Man 4 film along with screenwriter James Vanderbilt, the plans could not be put into place. The film was in fact canceled in favor of the 2012 reboot The Amazing Spider-Man which was directed by Marc Webb.

In a recent interview with JoBlo, Church talked about his time in the Spider-Man series, eventually suggesting that Raimi might be up with another Spiderman film in future.

Sam’s production company is still set up there and he’ll always have a home at Sony, but on that particular franchise they parted ways,” the Sandman said. “I think that Sam could come back to it if he was really interested if it doesn’t so far past him, y’know. Sam is only like a year or two older than me. Sam’s got plenty of energy and creative fuel and if they ever invited Sam to come back and do another one, I think he’d consider it, I do.”

Church also acknowledged the fact that Spider-Man 3 had an overstuffed storyline. Furthermore, he revealed that Sony’s interference in the film’s storyline was the reason behind Raimi’s departure from the franchise. Notably, Raimi has recently signed on to direct The Kingkiller Chronicle for Lionsgate.

During the interview, Church revealed that he has filmed a role in a mystery project which is not a Marvel movie.

I’m not supposed to talk about it, but I actually have returned, but not in the Marvel world, it’s another world, but it is in that genre of superheroes and supervillains,” Church added. “I’m not supposed to talk about it, it’s a movie I shot last year. They’re trying to keep it — and good luck to ’em — with, y’know, today man, I’m surprised it hasn’t already kinda been revealed.”

Currently, Sony and Marvel are working together on the Homecoming sequel with Tom Holland reprising the friendly neighborhood superhero. but after that, Sony is expected to part ways with Marvel and continue with Holland’s version of Spidey’s arc. Perhaps, if Raimi is interested, fans will get to see the director make a comeback.
