Director Todd McFarlane is leaving no stone unturned to create a buzz among fans about his upcoming live-action Spawn reboot film from Blumhouse. The R-rated supernatural thriller comic book movie will feature Jaime Foxx as the titular antihero, Al Simmons/Spawn.
During an interview with ComicBook.com, McFarlane talked about casting another major character from the Spawn comics that will appear in the reboot- Detective Maximillian “Twitch” Williams. Twitch is an NYPD homicide detective who is an expert marksman and a prodigy. As per the description, the character will have a major role in Spawn reboot, so, it’s important for the director to find a strong candidate for Twitch’s role.
“Do I have my wish list? Of course, I do,” McFarlane said. “Do I think it’s likely that I’ll be able to get one of them? You know, I’m a realist. But, I didn’t think I was going to get Jamie. But, I said, let’s ask. What’s the worst that could happen if they say no? Before I go anywhere, I’m going to go to my list. If they say no, then we keep moving.”
The Spawn creator added that with Jamie Fox on board, he is confident that he will get another really good actor for the Twitch role.
“I can get, especially now with Jamie as cast, I can get another really good actor for the Twitch role,” McFarlane said. “I think it also brings up all the rest of the cast. People will go, ‘Oh, my gosh,’ especially if you get some of the people that are on my list for Twitch. And then all of a sudden it makes it easier for us to cast the rest of it because people, I’m hoping will then go, ‘I’m going to be involved in that kind of a project. It’d be fun.’ And then all of a sudden, this little, small movie at least it appears to be, a legit movie, right? This silly thing Todd wanted to do, it feels real now. We can work with that, both in terms of marketing and exploit it. It will eventually lead to enough commercial success that we can say that we’ve only just begun. I’ve got a lot of stories. I’ve got 286 issues of the comic book.”
Pursue News reported earlier that Spawn makers have roped in Hawkeye fame actor Jeremy Renner for the film. While information regarding Renner’s character in the film remains unavailable, there are high chances that Renner could be cast for the role of Twitch. Nothing is certain as of now.
In another interview with CBR, McFarlane spoke about the possibility of a Spawn crossover with Venom with him on board as the film’s director, but only if Sony approves the crossover idea.
He also revealed that he’s still interested in including a cameo of Stan Lee in his Spawn reboot film which will likely be more supernatural thriller than a horror movie.
The Spawn reboot is yet to get a release date.
