Avi Arad whose known for being a producer on several Marvel movies wants to team up with Sami Raimi, the director of Toby Mcquire’s version of Spider-Man movies. The producer has shown interest in working along with the director to make an animated Spider-Man title.
Arad continues to produce Spider-Man movies and recently worked on the spin-off title, Venom and is currently working on the upcoming project Morbius which is in filming. Speaking to Deadline, the producer said, “I would love to see what kind of animated Spider-Man movie we’d get from Sam Raimi so if he sees this, ‘Call me Sam!‘”.
Before Raimi introduced Spider-Man to the big screen, moviegoers weren’t convinced that Marvel could appeal to them as DC’s Superman and Batman did. But the director changed that with his Spider-Man trilogy.
Unfortunately, Raimi departed from the franchise after he faced conflict over his plans for a fourth Spider-Man movie. But the director’s vision for the Marvel character still plays an inspiration in Marvel movies.
The recently released Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse which won an Oscar for the best animated movie also had a reference to Raimi’s Spider-Man. Sony teaming up with Raimi for an animated movie would be a big win for the studio going by its set notion of plans for future titles.
In an earlier interview with Variety, Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Tony Vinciquerra revealed the studios’ plans for making several titles for the big screen as well as for TV audience. So it seems like, after the success of Spider-Verse, Sony is planning to expand its assets in the animated universe as well.
“We have the next seven or eight years laid out as to what we’re going to do with that asset, and that will not only be on the film side — it’ll be on the TV side,” said Vinciquerra. “Our television group will have its own set of characters from within that universe that we will seek to develop.”
