As far as the studio is willing to reveal, Zendaya plays a character called Michelle in Spider-Man: Homecoming. But rumors have continued to suggest that she is in fact none other Mary Jane and her current name is just a cover.
Recently, MTV News correspondent Gaby Wilson and Josh Horowitz caught up with Zendaya at the MTV’s Movie and TV awards. During their talk, the actress was more than willing to share some details on her character from Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Initially, Zendaya cleared the air by stressing that her characters is “100 percent Michelle.” She also added, “That’s her name. I promise you I’m not lying,” confirming publicly that she does not play as Mary Jane Watson in the upcoming standalone film.
Zendaya also depicted her character as “weird and interesting and cool”, but “says weird things at the wrong times.” Recently, we got a glimpse of Michelle in the new 1:00 trailer. The character was everything Zendaya had said in the interview. Fans can check it out below.
The actress also shared her love for the character revealed that she, in fact, shares some connection in real life as well. “She’s like my spirit animal [Michelle], [She’s] how I feel on the inside.”
Recently, Zendaya tagged along with Tom Holland to promote Spider-Man: Homecoming in other countries. The actress has been part of the main cast which suggests that her character has an important role although she might not be MJ in the film.
Spider-Man: Homecoming releases on July 7th. later, the friendly neighborhood superhero will also fight alongside other Marvel characters in Avengers: Infinity War.
