Sony Pictures has reportedly roped in Nicolas Cage to voice the character of Spider-Man Noir in the upcoming animated Marvel film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Spider-Man Noir is one of the many Spider characters to feature in the animated film. The character, who dons an all-black outfit, debuted in the Marvel Noir comics in 2009. He has also appeared in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon and the Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions video game.
Cage is the latest entrant in the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse cast list which already includes some big names including Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Jake Johnson as Peter Parker, Hailee Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen, Mahershala Ali as Miles’ uncle and Liev Schreiber as the crime lord Kingpin.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is not the first comic book movie outing for Cage. The actor has starred in many projects for Marvel and DC over the years. He played Ghost Rider in Sony’s 2007 film of the same name and its 2011 sequel. Cage has also voiced the character of Superman in the upcoming Teen Titans Go to the Movies.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the story of a teenager Miles Morales who lives in Brooklyn. It is when Morales bumps into an adult Peter Parker aka Spider-Man in a battle that Peter recognizes Miles shares powers similar to him. So, he decides to teach Miles how to be Spider-Man.
In the film, Miles can be seen trying to balance his double life as a superhero and high school student. The animated movie will introduce the Spider-Verse, where more than one Spider-Man exists. The first Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse trailer that got released last month confirmed Gwen Stacy aka Spider-Gwen’s presence in the film. The trailer garnered more than 44 million views in the first three days.
Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will open in theaters on December 14, 2018.
