Star Wars 8: Carrie Fisher Slaps Oscar Isaac Multiple Times In Gag Reel

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was recently released for the Blu-ray and DVD. The Blu-Ray debut of the film comes laden with some extra goodies including a brand new gag reel, some behind-the-scenes clips and deleted content that did not make it the final cut.

The Star Wars: The Last Jedi gag reel shows the making of the scene in which General Leia Organa, portrayed by late Carrie Fisher, slapped Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac, on the face over and over again. In the film, the scene in question occurs in the beginning when Dameron destroys a First Order dreadnought and puts Resistance lives at risk, despite General Organa asking him to stop the mission.

During an interview with Stephen Colbert for The Late Show, Isaac spoke about filming the particular scene. He revealed that he shot the scene on his first day of the shoot.

A large amount of the stuff that I got to do was with Carrie, which was amazing,” said Isaac. “I remember the first day of shooting was a scene with Carrie, and you know often times that first day, everybody is trying to get the tone and figure it out. I remember it was a scene where I come up to talk to her and she’s very upset with me and slaps me, and [director Rian Johnson] kept doing it over and over.”

Notably, this was the last time that fans got to see Fisher in the Star Wars franchise as the actress died on December 27, 2016, after going into cardiac arrest.

The gag reel also includes a scene which shows Finn (John Boyega) and Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) in the cockpit of the ship when they discover BB-8 with a smaller version of himself. The clip also shows actors making goofy faces on the set and Mark Hamill climbing out of something and saying “Thanks for the memories.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently available on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
