After it came to light that Lucasfilm has decided to include late actress Carrie Fisher in Star Wars: Episode 9 in her iconic role of Leia Organa by using her unseen footage shot for The Force Awakens, her longtime co-star, and friend Mark Hamill took to social media to share his thoughts on Fisher’s return to the saga. He posted two pictures of him with his beloved co-star.
“It’s bittersweet facing my final chapter without her; she is simply irreplaceable,” Hamill tweeted. “I’m finding solace in the fact that she won’t be replaced & would love the worldwide outpouring of affection from those who loved her when they heard the news. #CarrieOnForever.”
Hamill and Fisher have been essaying the characters of on-screen siblings Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa ever since Star Wars: A New Hope debuted in 1977. Fisher passed away on December 27, 2016, after she finished filming her role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi following a cardiac arrest.
After Lucasfilm confirmed that they won’t attempt to digitally recreate the actress in any way for Star Wars: Episode 9, fans started questioning about the character’s future. Some even assumed that Leia would be written out of the narrative. But now, the news of Leia’s inclusion in Star Wars: Episode 9 has pleased all fans and even her co-stars. The upcoming film will bring an end to Disney’s first Star Wars trilogy.
The yet-to-be-titled Star Wars: Episode 9, directed by J.J. Abrams, will reportedly go on floors on August 1 at London’s Pinewood Studios. The firm will feature series veterans Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Anthony Daniels, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd as well as newcomers Keri Russell, Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. Mark Hamill will be back as Luke along with Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. John Williams will return to score the film.
Star Wars: Episode 9 is scheduled to release in theatres in December 2019.
