Mind Flayer will return. Stranger Things big bad is not yet done with Hawkins and chances are he will return sooner than we expected in the upcoming Season 3.
Recently, at Paley Fest, the Stranger Things cast got together previewing the highly anticipated Season 3. Speaking with TV Line, the showrunner Shawn Levy revealed that while Mind Flayer’s army and demo dogs were successfully defeated by the Eleven and the gang, they still have the bigger challenge to face. He confirmed that Mind Flayer is alive and well.
Fans will remember seeing Mind Flayer towering over the school at the end of Stranger Things Season 2 finale. As revealed by the EP, the evil force will be back with new strategies.
“I can’t tell you what new strategies that evil might employ, but he’s not done with Hawkins,” said Levy. “He’s going to find a way.”
Besides the big bad, Levy teased new characters, new villains and a new setup for the upcoming season of Stranger Things. Season 3 is set in the summer of 1985. This means there will be a time jump of six months after the events of Season 2 finale.
When the show returns, it will not be about the school days for the gang but things they do in the summers. Things will be fun, but they will continue to turn dark.
“The first two seasons were very much school-based. This is that time of year where it’s not about school, it’s about the swimming pool and campfires and parades and Fourth of July and fireworks, so there’s kind of a poppy fun to Season 3 that’s really enjoyable before things inevitably turn super dark,” Levy said of Stranger Things Season 3 (Source: Variety).
Meanwhile, fans will be introduced to a new character in a lead role named Robin, played by Maya Hawke. She is described as an “alternative girl” and is expected to be involved in Steve’s storyline.
Filming of Stranger Things Season 3 is expected to begin at the end of April. Recently, actress Millie Bobbie Brown also hinted in a tweet that she is set to start shooting for the series.
Stranger Things Season 3 release date is yet to be revealed. Rumors are it won’t air until 2019. However, the official cast and crew are yet to confirm the reports.
