It looks like Warner Bros. would soon be announcing its director for Suicide Squad 2. A new report has revealed that filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra is the top choice for helming the DCEU sequel.
According to Deadline, Collet-Serra, the director known for helming The Shallows is being mainly considered to take over Suicide Squad 2. Earlier, Mel Gibson was one of the contenders and the studio’s frontrunner.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that script delays pushed production start date was the reason Gibson moved on. Furthermore, in more changes, a new treatment was recently given to Warner Bros. by Zak Penn.
For those unaware, Penn isn’t new to the Comic Book Movie genre. The writer is quite known for scripting The Avengers, X-Men: The Last Stand and The Incredible Hulk. He will now begin working on a new script based on the new treatment.
Variety has also reported that Warner Bros. would love to begin production with Suicide Squad 2 by March 2018. Going by the story, it looks like the studio is still in the early process. Moreover, as Penn is just about to begin with the scripting, fans would have to wait for a while for further announcements.
The original film, Suicide Squad was directed by David Ayer. Although the film suffered negative reviews, it still managed to rake over $745 million at the box office worldwide and won an Oscar for best makeup. The film was also considered to be a success by Warner Bros.
Ayer, on the other hand, is expected to helm Gotham City Sirens. Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn and will is also the executive producer for the film.
