Suicide Squad 2 Taps The Accountant Director Gavin O’Connor To Helm

Suicide Squad 2 is one of the movies that have been fast tracked by WB/DC. The DC supervillain project, which was a commercial success, will see the band of misfits assembling again to fight a new enemy.

Until now the sequel was looking for a director to helm the movie after it was revealed that Suicide Squad director David Ayer will not be back for the sequel. It seems the studio has finally found someone with whom they will take the movie ahead.

Variety reported that WB/DC have brought Gavin O’Connor to write the sequel to Suicide Squad. The report is also revealing that he will be tapped onto direct it as well. This comes after some reports were hinting that Mel Gibson and Jaume Collet-Serra were on the shortlist to direct the sequel.

The ensemble movie that stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and others will see the famed villains of DC going on yet another covert operation for the government and possibly getting in trouble as well.

Suicide Squad was an interesting concept to begin with. Some of the world’s dangerous criminals were brought aboard to stop something evil. What was even more fascinating was that someone good was constantly looking over at them in case they went rogue.

Ever since Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy made fans believe that a gang of thief, assassins and crooks can rise up to the occasion and save the world, other studios too started pushing their respective anti-heroes and villains ahead.

DC made Suicide Squad, Fox brought Deadpool and thus started a chain of new kind of superhero movies that really did not star traditional heroes. Since fans too love this kind of movies, studios are making more and more effort to go beyond the ordinary and bring something unique.

Hiring O’Connor to write and possibly direct Suicide Squad 2 project is just the very first official piece of information that has been revealed in recent times. No further plot details or release date for the sequel is available yet.
