Suicide Squad VFX Clip Shows Removal Of El Diablo From Final Fight’s End Scene

A VFX reel for Suicide Squad has surfaced online that confirms that Jay Hernandez’s El Diablo originally made it to the film’s end. It was only during the reshoots that the filmmakers decided to give a twist to the character by killing him off. To recall, in the final cut of the film, El Diablo sacrificed his life in order to take down Incubus, the brother of Enchantress.

The demo reel posted by Suicide Squad VFX compositor Francisco Franco features a before-and-after clip from the film that shows El Diablo standing alongside the rest of the Suicide Squad members over the Fallen Enchantress. Notably, the decision to remove Diablo from the shot was taken later on to ensure that the scene fits with the final version of the movie, where he had already been killed off by that point.

The demo reel also features clips from some other films including Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Ayer’s urban fantasy film Bright.

The David Ayer directed Suicide Squad was a culmination of some of the popular and lesser-known DC villains who unite to form a special black ops team designed to tackle superpowered threats. The team consisted of Deadshot, Harley Quinn, El Diablo, Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc, and Slipknot. Suicide Squad ended up grossing more than $746 million at the global box office.

Talking about Suicide Squad 2, David Bar Katz and Todd Stashwick are co-writing the film’s script alongside director Gavin O’Connor. The film will see the return of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Jared Leto’s The Joker, and Will Smith’s Deadshot. El Diablo’s return in the film still remains a big mystery.

There are also rumors that the film will feature Amazo, the android with the power to mimic his opponents’ skills and abilities, as the main villain.

Suicide Squad 2 is currently eyeing a 2020 release.
