Supergirl Movie Gets An Update , Brainiac Likely To Be The Main Villain

Reports of Warner Bros. and DC Films making a Supergirl movie have been making rounds for quite some time now. Last year it came to light that Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street, The Cloverfield Paradox )was been roped in to write the script for the Supergirl film that will feature an origin story for Superman’s cousin Kara Zor El. But, unfortunately, there have been no updates about the film since then.

Thankfully, Forbes writer Mark Hughes has offered a new potential update about the film on Twitter. During a Twitter conversation about Superman and Supergirl, when a Twitter user asked about the whereabouts of Superman, Hughes replied the DC superhero’s cousin will offer an update about him in a couple of years. And when the focus turned to Supergirl, Hughes noted that Kara Zor-El will potentially carry the Kryptonian banner on the silver screen solo for some time.

No, I’m saying in a couple of years she will have a feature film. Supergirl will be carrying the Kryptonian banner on film for a little while, from what I hear,” Hughes’ Twitter post read. You can check out the post below.

A report coming from Cosmic Book News claims the Supergirl movie will see Kara Zor-El facing off Brainiac, arguably one of the most famous villains in all of Superman lore. The film is being pitched as a period piece, which will take place before the arrival of Superman. It will likely feature the character as a teenager.

The character has been played by Melissa Benoist on The CW’s TV series, which is not a part of the DCEU films.

As Warner Bros. hasn’t officially announced Supergirl, there’s no release date assigned to the film as yet. However, it is expected that the film may likely get a 2021 or 2022 release window.
