Earlier today, the DC fandom was shocked by a report from Variety’s Justin Kroll claiming that Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves’ The Batman movie has finally found its caped crusader and its none other than actor Robert Pattison. but to clarify, no actor has signed a deal yet.
Several trade publications such as The Wrap have put out conflicting reports cautioning readers that Pattison has not signed a deal yet and other actors such as Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Armie Hammer are also in the mix. but according to Collider, Pattison has already grabbed on to the role and other actors are just frontrunner who could step in, in case Warner Bros. fails to secure Pattison.
In any case, though Pattison seems likely to bag the role he is still not cast in the movie. It is still possible for another actor to be considered if the Twilight Zone actor doesn’t plan on signing a multi-picture deal.
It must be noted that Matt Reeves plans to do a trilogy for The Batman, unlike the upcoming Joaquin Phoenix starrer Joker movie which is a one-off and is part of the Elseworld DC films.
The Batman movie is expected to begin production this Summer and the solo title is scheduled to release on July 17, 2020. Earlier details shared by Reeves have hinted at multiple villain appearances for his Noir version of the caped crusader.
“There will be a Rogues Gallery. The casting process will begin shortly. We’re starting to put together our battle plan. I’m doing another pass on the script and we’ll begin some long-lead stuff to start developing conceptual things,” said Reeves.
The director has already confirmed that the movie won’t have a similar tone as The Joker or Aquaman. For now, the project’s working title seems to be ‘The Batman’ but it may receive a different title later.
